I will keep this brief and try to explain my remark.
Have 2016 Tacoma Double Cab. It has
the OEM small screen stereo without nav. I attempted installing 2017 OEM bigger screen with JBL Logo on bottom edge.
All the connection on the back worked the same on both units. I think the new one was removed from a Sienna.
Anyway the volume knob will not work. The sound is loud and cannot be adjusted. Also the steering wheel control pad had no affect.
Anyone that is more technically informed would I have to order/replace the steering wheel control? I really would like to use this and I have to change mount bracket or modify the ones that came with the truck.
My phone with BT volume works using the phone volume up and down.
Its a real shame as the JBL unit is super nice looking and would be great if I could work out this small detail.
Backup camera works fine.. Everything works except the volume adjust.

did you hook up the amp? i believe that the jbl requires or uses amp. Its like going from a am radio to a nav system with satelite radio

Do I have to buy the amp? Did Toyota locate the jbl amp under the drivers seat?

Disregard my previous reply. So I think I know what the problem could be. I need to buy the amp that is located under the driver seat? My 2016 was non jbl equipped . The amp controls the volume?

Sell the JBL unit and buy the non-jbl one.
The jbl system has a different wire harness all together. It may plug into your car, but nothing will work without the JBL harness and amp located behind the rear seats.

The amp on the tacoma is located behind the passenger side rear seat. It doesnt matter though unless he gets a full harness from a tacoma to install.

You have a 2013, he has a 2016, you have a extended cab, he has a double cab. different models, different generations, different amp locations.

Are you for real? your telling him his amp is in the center console, its not, your wrong, you didnt read his post or your a idiot. You have a 2nd gen, your amp may be in the center, he has a 3rd gen his would be behind the rear seat.

When you get a 3rd gen and know what your talking about, then come back. Till then go sit in the corner.

This isnt a question about the inside of a amp, are you sure your in the right thread? His problem is he got a JBL radio to put into a non-JBL car. The JBL radio wont work without the JBL amp, and that wont work without the JBL harness. IF he wants this to work with that radio he will need to get the harness out of a JBL truck (2016-2019) along with the amp from a JBL truck (2016-2019) your 2nd gen experience is as worthless as your opinion on the matter.

It makes no difference if you have 25 years of car audio or 0, the amp on the 3rd gen is located behind the rear seat on the 2016 double cab tacoma (his truck) Now, if you want to talk about the inside of a amp, go start a thread about that, but this is not that thread.

BTW, thats not something that you can do. If you had 25 years in car audio I would hope you know how forums work. If someone disagrees with you, they dont get banned.

Im betting here that your just a a kid or really really stupid.
