So this week I decided to add some hood struts to the Tacoma, because why not? I ordered my hood struts from Redline Tuning, fast shipping, great product and a fairly straight forward install. However, if you have made other modifications under your hood of your 3rd gen Tacoma, the install might not go as smoothly as you expect.

What I did not realize prior to install, is that the passenger side strut would have to fall directly over my new K&N intake air box in order to close properly. I did not find this out until after the install was complete. Minor (sketchy) modifications were neccessary to get my hood to close with these new struts.

Here is my review video of my experience. Hopefully this will help save some headaches and frustrations for future installers with after market air intakes.

TRD emblems, tinted windows, OEM running boards, AVS vent shades, RMAS upgrade, LED lights in front and rear, interior LED lighting upgrade, LED lighting in bed, touch control dash mount for LED lighting, auxillary 12v and USB jacks in bed, replace all speakers with Infinity, custom mod with Bose tweeters, TRD Pro illumination mod...
Just a suggestion. I added a 3/4" foam pipe wrap on the bars to provide some protection to the bars as well as fill in the gap between the bars and the vinyl top so there would be no flapping at highway speeds.

The dealer probably keeps the SD cards out of their new stock to prevent pilfering and in your case neglected to put a card back in when you purchased your truck. Sounds like you paid for something you didn’t get. They will likely realize their error when you bring it to their attention.

Not even my fuel points would fix that. Maybe your taxes are cheaper than ours.... But i doubt that too

At a 25 cents bump in price I see why some of you do not care about running premium fuel. In the case of that CA photo it is just about a 5% overall increase in cost. Although fuel is much cheaper where I live it is common to pay .75 to 1.00 more a gallon for premium.

Not to get political, but the real money makers in the gasoline game are the states. You really can't compare gas prices until you pull the state's tax out of the price. In related news I think CA consumers just voted to allow the state to raise the gasoline tax whenever needed without a vote. Smart, Lol.

Sadly my truck does seem to get better mpg running premium gasoline which means it is not properly tuned from the factory and must be in a state of detonation, therefore timing retarded at almost all times. Since this happens more at low RPMs with the engine under load, and my truck insists on trying to run at 1,500 on the highway ALWAYS on the verge of dropping out of 6th it makes sense. Oh well, live and learn.

ran the wiring for the seat heating elements and installed my N2 designs remote starter. the heated seats were a bit more involved than I thought but the remote start was incredibly simple to do just by following the included instructions. I will make a post later with some pictures and info for how i routed the wiring harness for the heating elements.

which ever way you go, make sure to do your due diligence and research the products before purchase AND installation.

don’t buy, install and then cry because the product was different than what you expected after not doing any basic research.

Installed Baja Designs (non SAE) fogs and a $40 scoop light kit I got on eBay. Those fogs are real deal! The light on the grass is just from the scoop light. Not bad for the price. Also has a strobe effect.

I’ve researched....... I don’t cry about shit like so many do on here...... Just asking for opinion is all. I myself see pros and cons to both. RCI is cheaper in cost, but I don’t like the way the bolt heads are exposed on the front. It’s also not as form fitting as the BAMF. The BAMF is a little more cost , fits very form fitting , but looks like it leaves that bottom hole unprotected. Hmmmm Not for mall crawling. I actually beat on my truck and need the armor .......... Just saying
