Moved back with my taco, been playin around Moks, cinder cone area so far. Where else to explore? Some say base of Mana Kea?

Wife and I are going to the big island from 6/16-6/23 for the first time. Pretty excited. Unfortunately cant bring the Tacoma. Probably going to rent a jeep.

Anyone have any recommendations of where to go/see/eat?

 

Yo brah, check out page 206/207 on the thread. Had a few TacomaWorld guys come visit the Big Island and asked for the same recommendations and a few of the members replied with some places to check out.

Been awhile since I checked in on here but hope everyones good. Plenty new faces and tacos out on the road. Been camping pretty much every weekend and got myself into another 4runner so I can work on the extra cab and pull that apart once I finish the 84. I was forced to work on and move the tacoma yesterday, been over a month, maybe two since I drove it. Im still looking for a drivers side window track and a spare rear end for it. A few months ago we took it down crater rim drive, first time ive ever driven that road in that truck, since its been closed since 2008. Beautiful drive. I still havent gone down Pohoiki since they reopened nor took it camping in awhile. Kinda been wanting to forget about the tacoma but hopping in it yesterday brought some spark back to it and had to come on here to get some fresh ideas and motivation.

Also met bullaculla down south pt, he and his daughter volunteered and spent fathers day cleaning/picking up rubbbish down Kamilo. Fkn beautiful truck in person! Thanks man for helping keep the beaches and ocean clean!



ohhhh and if any of you were planning to take a drive thru mana rd, its currently closed at the Mauna Kea access rd(road closed to public) so youll need to go in from waimea…you can still drive it but closer to mauna kea youll get stopped by dlnr, if you look like a hunter youll probably be asked to get out and theyll search your truck for any weapons…bow, gun, any large knife…also was told you cant have dogs. I planned to restock the fridge but was told otherwise. Ran into a similar problem up Skyline a year or so ago, which is also now closed to public access, told cant have dogs but its one of the only OHV use area on this island, is supposed to open to year round hunting. Beautiful areas thats public space but guess just gotta be careful how you enjoy it, if youre allowed to even go there at all.

Aloha my future neighbors.... Not there yet but I have a house in North Kona... Going to be there soon I hope... Getting the Taco ready and hope to be there within a year.. I look forward to joining the other millions of Tacoma's already there! lol
