I'm leaving out this weekend on a week long trip to Charlotte, NC for a UAV workshop for work. Normally I would fly but since I got the rtt I'm going to drive and make a mini vacation out of it. Going to drive south to I-20 and take it to Talledega NF in Alabama and camp at Sweetwater Lake for a night, then get up and drive the rest of the way to Charlotte. I'll be there for 3 days then on the 4th day I'll head in to Asheville, NC for the day and then camp at North Mills River Recreation Area in Pisgah NF. The next day I'll travel NF roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway and head up to Clingman's Dome then drive west towards Gatlinburg then turn south to hit Tail of the Dragon then head to North River Campground for the night. I'll wake up and then head home from there through Chattanooga and then Nashville. I will be hitting breweries along the way at each place. I currently have 16 on my list. Going to make sure to take many photos and drone shots.

Jealous man. I've asked my employer if I can stay at campsites and pocket my hotel money. They didn't go for it.

I don't know who you work for, but you might want to check out their travel policies. I doubt they'll pay you for the entire round trip mileage, especially if you work for a company that does gov't/defense work.

I know for my job, they'll only pay mileage for the most direct route from my house (or work) to the destination and back. If I was going to the airport to fly somewhere for work, I could drive all over the state before going to the airport, but they're only going to pay for the mileage from the house to the airport. Another consideration is that you might need to provide justification or a cost comparison between driving your POV and flying and renting a car, since you said that you would normally fly. Then they may only pay the cheaper of the two options unless there's a business justification for the more expensive option.

Our mileage is paid out for direct routes but only up to the cost of a plane ticket if we don’t fly. I had everything approved before planning the trip.

Fellas, I accepted a dean position at a university in Indiana and will be relocating the first of the year. My wife will stay behind to sell our house, and our son will remain here to finish college. It will be a major adjustment for us, but an exciting new chapter for my wife and I as we enter the empty nester phase.

Congrats! Which university? I guess none of us can say we can't help you move because we don't have a truck.

I've thought about it. Unfortunately they've only sent me one place that would be nice to camp at a time of the year that would be nice to camp. I almost did it in AZ to cut my commute from 45 min to 5 min but it was too hot.

Congratulations @dean'sRig. Half my Siblings and two nephews went to Valparaiso, they really liked the area, but moved out as soon as they graduated. Good thing about being an empty-nester is groceries, cleaning, laundry and trash went way down.

Me and my wife are going to Hot Springs this weekend and was going to drive through some of the Quachita forest. My question is there a lot of deer hunting going on in the Quachita forest and if so is it a good idea to drive though the forest?

Bowhunters this time of year. Most you'll see is trucks parked on the side of trails. If you get out to hike though, be sure to wear some orange.
