So, I did a little mudding yesterday, and right when we were about to leave my check engine light flicked on....I had it taken to autozone and they ran a check on the codes and said that the first(front) catalytic converter was throwing an issue.

Any thoughts? Would a big puddle cause that to happen? Should i just wash down the car and wait until it goes away, or is it just coincidence and I need a new cat.

The symptoms of a bad cat, aka poor idle, rotten egg smell do not exist.

    Thanks for the help!

    getting there....
try pressure washing the whole truck and letting it dry first. its possible a sensor got good and wet and tripped the cel for that code.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
They have no way of determining whether it's the front cat or rear one without removing them. What was the exact code?

^^^ did you have to reset the ecu get the check engine light to go away or did you just wash it and it went away by itself ? I plan on getting a full diagnostic this weekend to figure this out before I drop any money

Thanks for all the help so far!

EDIT: I provided information concerning a Second Gen, not realizing that this was for first.

Give the exhaust a good hosing down, then let it all dry out. If the problem persists, you can remove them to see if there are any underlying issues. A seal might have been bad and a little mud found its way through...
