Just to play devil's advocate, these FBS vs FCS games could also be seen as a "gov't bailout" for the smaller schools... If your budget does not work to keep multiple sports/programs open, close down some sports/programs. Yes this sucks for the kids that are getting their only shot, but free market, yada yada...

so per that quote....assuming the "one team" everyone thinks should be the right one, that's usually pretty undisputed as the #1 team going in to the playoffs. I haven't heard anyone disagree when the rankings come out that the #1 is the wrong team.

that being said, the #1 team initially has never won the playoffs. so, to say it's only "one best team you have to get right" is just wrong. the other 3 clearly matter, since they are the ones that keep winning.

 

That's not what I'm trying to say, I don't believe coach either. He was asked how well the committee has done so far, which I think you two agree from your statement. Capture as many teams as necessary to capture the true champ, be it 2 or 10.

 

And Harbaugh's plan isn't too different than some of the ideas we're throwing around here, so we can't be all that crazy

 

gotcha. I thought you were straight up agreeing with his. I take his to say they've always gotten THE right one in the top 4, whereas we don't know if maybe THE RIGHT one was actually #5 one year.

Harbaugh's plan...include enough teams to cover his ass for the guaranteed 2 losses per year so roughly 10-12 teams in the playoffs

 

The thing that strikes me is the fact the number one team has yet to win it all...

 

and yet that is usually the most undisputed team. the following 3 are the disputed ones and the following 3 are actually who decides the winner!

 

And still lost to South Carolina...
