SCBA Tire filler help needed.

I have stock TRD Offroad tires and wheels. I want to air down to 12 -15 psi from street pressure of 32-36. I'm trying to figure out if a 66CF @ 4500 psi bottle will air me back up and if so, how many times. Finally how did you figure it out.

I have a high pressure pump on the way for pcp air rifle, so will be using the tank and pump double duty. I have a decent little 12v compressor currently, but would really like the speed of a tank.

 

I dont have a direct answer but i use a 10lb co2 tank ive inflated my 255/85r16s from 20psi to 36psi about 12x now and its still not empty. I think ill get 1 or 2 more fill ups from it

 

Believe you would need an understanding of the formula from Boyle’s law, Charles’ law, Combined Gas Law and Ideal Gas Law to get the answer your looking for.

 

I use and old school full size 2216 SCBA bottle to fill up my rear tractor tire, I can fill it up a few times before in need to refill it.

 

I have a 120CF 3,500lb tank that I have used to go from 20psi to 35psi on two stock Tacos and a JKU on wide 35s. Plenty of air leftover. I would guess that your 60lb tank will fill yours at least a few times.

Weigh your tank empty and full. With one of these, you can roughly gauge the amount remaining:

If you're going this route, you will need a 1st Stage reg to drop the pressure. I use mine for shop air.

Completely. 40.2lb empty and 49.0lb full. It should seem obvious, but I'm not weighing the tank on the trail. I weigh it before I head out to decide if I need to visit the dive shop or not.

What would you do to judge the fill?

The op asked about an SCBA tank, they all have a gauge. It’s an NFPA guideline.

 

Not if you're not a diver. The OP said nothing about being a certified diver, just that he has a tank, a standard compressor, and a shoebox compressor on the way, and most people that I know with tanks are not divers either.

My pics clearly show that my tank is not for diving at this time, and I clearly state that mine is used for shop air.

 

I have 2 extra Sherwood pressure gauge/depth gauge consoles that I'll ship to the CONUS for $30 each. Take the pressure gauge out of the console, screw it into the 1st stage high pressure port and bungee it to the tank..... Do whatever you want with the depth gauge....

Please read more carefully. We are discussing SCBA not SCUBA! Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, it’s used in the fire service to be able to survive in IDLH atmosphere.

 

I took that as a typo for SCUBA, which is very common on TW, esp in titles.

Regardless, pressured air volumes can be weighed. I don't get your discontent over something so trivial.

 

Where does one even get SCBA equipment? Isn't it simpler and cheaper to use scuba stuff? I've never seen SCBA equipment on craigslist, for example. Tons of scuba tanks though.....

I honestly didn’t know that about the weight of air, so I had to look it up. Thanks for the lesson. As for the discontent......I was just trying to make my point over and over; SCBA, NFPA, the gauge, ect. I wasn’t trying to get an attitude, I was simply trying to get my point across. Sorry if I upset you
