Is it a 100000 miles power train warranty? Might be in luck if it is.

Have you ran the VIN through the toyotaowners site to see any service history?

you say for the past week it has been doing this. did it not do it the first week or did you just not notice? maybe some additive was added to sell it, worked for a week. as stated in other posts have the plugs checked for oil residue and see if all cylinders are effected or just one or two. where did you get it , dealer, personal add? if dealer, toyota or another? someone might have traded it in and put additive in to mask the issue from the dealer. is there a maint records of the oil changes etc.?

please keep us posted when you get to the bottom of this.

We have a Tundra 5.7 and it will sometimes puff out blue smoke when ever you do a cold start and then turn the truck off after 30 seconds. Like when you move it from the garage to the driveway. Then it would smoke on the following start up. Read it had to do something with the pcv sucking up oil. People said it was normal and they had the same issue.

Put me down for valve stem seals as well. Classic symptom. Hope I’m wrong. Wouldn’t hurt to check PCV valve though. Bummer.

I will start there with some research. Hopefully that's all it is!

Maybe I just didn't notice it at first. The dealer I bought if from is specializes in Toyota and Lexus. The owner is willing to do some test for me if it continues. He also suggested changing the oil and running some Lucas oil treatment in it.

I have not. Didn't know that was an option. The carfax showed one owner, no accidents or open recalls.

Thank you, all, for all the responses. It was more than I expected.

Before making the post, I was leaning towards valve stem seals. I will start with the PCV Valve and go from there. I also thought maybe it had too much oil in it from the last oil change.

Here are some pictures of the dipstick from yesterday morning after sitting all night. 20191104_070638.jpg 20191104_070717.jpg

    Oil change was at 75k.

It’s valve stem seals. It’s not a big deal. A competent mechanic won’t even have to take the head off, they’ll pull the spark plugs and fill the cylinders with compressed air to keep the valve from dropping and do them in place.

It’s not a head gasket and it’s not the PCV system. And no amount of additive was going to hide that. The conspiracy theories here are hilarious.

Yea, run the VIN and it will at least show if the regular maint. was done if it was done through a dealer. If the previous owner did it themselves or through a local shop it won't show.

Blue = oil like has been said already. That truck was either defective or seriously neglected. This problem itself is not the end of the world. But I seriously worry about what kind of treatment the truck was subjected to that caused that, and what other components are hosed/on their way out. When I go to look at vehicles I ask that it not be started because I would like to see a cold start. If it looks like it's been moved or started up at all that day after requesting that I walk.

Personally I'd get it fixed, dump the truck and start over. Shouldn't take too much of a loss at all and will be worth it 10 years down the road when you still have a reliable well maintained vehicle.

Ughh this is why I hate forums. It’s not a big deal. It’s valve stem seals. They might last forever or might go bad at 77k. They’re seals. Shit happens. It could live life happily just the way it is forever, or be fixed when he can’t stand the first smoky startup of the day anymore. Up to the OP.
