No reason a 2016 shouldn't be mechanically perfect. Especially when there's so many of them sitting out there on lots and in private listings. If it was a 10 or 20 year old purchase I'd agree with you. But that's too new, too big of a purchase to settle for less than perfection unless OP got some comically good deal on it. I would not feel good about long term owning a 3 year old truck that needed to go in for engine work.

Forums are about aggregating opinions. OP can take mine and yours and form his own conclusions.

This is reassuring. Everything looks like it's in great shape. Hopefully I can find a mechanic that can change these seals in the manner you stated earlier.

I have no intention of "dumping" the truck. I'm really enjoying this truck and want to keep it.

well, if you ask random people expect random answers. Also a car like will run like that for as long as you check and change the oil... cats and o2 sensors will need more attention.

People saying head gasket...doesn't a bad head gasket usually result in white smoke from burning coolant? White and sweet smelling? I was under the impression blue smoke was burning oil which could be a number of different things, but not a head gasket

Who doesn’t check their oil? And jfc, leaky valve stem seals aren’t going to foul your o2 sensors or cats. We aren’t talking about piston rings that got shot out the tailpipe after a 9k pull down the strip.

The same people that dont do their own oil and trade their cars in every 3 years. I would argue they will foul quicker than those not leaking.

If this is valve stem seals, it's not a complicated fix and it's not a chronic problem. Get it fixed and you're in business. If the dealer is willing to play ball on a repair, take them up on it, but don't try the Lucas product - that is a bandaid at best.

I concur rings or head gasket , possibly valve stem seals on the intake side since the smoke has a blueish tint to it. Ugh!!!

pulling the plugs will identify the offending (floor mat, propshaft, trans buckle, fiddle stick, affected cylinder)

I think it’s the retrofitted reciprocating dingle arm attached to the anti lag turbo encabulator .

Crap. In all the years I’ve been wrenching on things for money, I never asked Mr. mechanical object what was wrong with it... in its own opinion.

“I feel like you just don’t understand me.”- Valve stem seal.

Was this a certified truck ? If so Toyota’s power train warranty is 7 year 100k so this should be covered if it is. ( bought my taco a few months ago and when I did Toyota had just changed their policy to this )

I'm not sure. I didn't buy it from a Toyota dealership? How would I find out?

You can call up any Toyota dealer and give them your VIN. They should be able to look up your warranty info. My guess is that you are out of warranty, and the previous owner dumped his problem truck on you.
