Truck cover for new Tacoma, suggestions? Minnesota vehicle will have to be parked outside.

I'm researching TRUCK COVER options for my new Tacoma--I would guess something made of laminated fabric --for overnight parking outdoors in Minnesota winters. Looking for suggestions. Would like one that is relatively quick to get on and off. I can hang it on a clothes line during the day or stow it indoors.

In addition, if anyone has a true HAIL PROOF truck cover, I would dearly love to hear about that!!

 

Not sure there is a great option for covering the truck with something that wouldn't just constantly scratch the paint. As the cover gets older and in the elements it will only pick up more dirt to scratch. That is assuming there is no dirt on the truck, when dirt is on the truck it's definitely scratching every time you move it on/off.

If you don't mind the scratches, then I would look into the brand Covercraft

 

I see your point... Sure would like to avoid scratches, but if there is one out there with a forgiving liner, it would sure make my morning start-ups a lot less of a pain. We had several days 0f -20 weather just last winter, and getting ice off in those conditions is pretty tough. I hate the idea of even scraping ice on the windows on this new truck for one thing, harsh on the glass. I may have to re-consider the whole idea.

I do have the Covercraft Endura seat covers (which I put on top of my brand new leather seats to hide 'em, how dumb is that?!). Royal pain to install but they fit great. My wife has Covercraft Endura seat covers on her new Subaru and those look great and went on slick.

 

The cover is gonna cause more blemishes than it is going to prevent, and with iced up snow it is gonna be a pain to remove

 

Even if the cover was brand new or washed each time it's putting it on a car paint that is not clean is what will scratch it. Even during a car wash it's easy to scratch up the car if you're not using caution and this is with lubricated soap, super plush mitts or towels. Even after the paint is clean drying it off carelessly will scratch.

It's not like it's real leather anyway.

Thankfully down here if it ever gets 0 degree and that deep covered in snow, nobody is going anywhere.

 

Tacoma paint scratches just by accidentally rubbing a fingernail on it! It is gonna get scuffs, best thing is to just accept that. Wait til your 1st parking lot door ding! Unless you install nice wide sliders to help reduce them..

 

Agreed. I think the finish on my 2001 Tundra was superb, not quite so much on the new Tacoma, but I do like the flatter look as I went for Cement color.

I'm beginning to think you're right, bzzr2, the cover may cause more hassle than it is supposed to solve.. May have to rethink the whole idea. What th ehell, my 2001 Tundra trooped on for me for 18+ years, never once saw a garage unless in for maintenence, and it fired up on many a brutal cold morning without complaint.

Well... it is indeed factory leather on the seats and the seat backs, back and side panels are synthetic. I agree with your opinion about the scratching, I think I'm tanking the whole idea.

 

I ended up trading mine in the other day... it was cement also. Great colour! Enjoy it and don’t worry about little scuffs!

I planned to put a cover as well because the truck sits in the garage with the containment and it has been 2 weeks now... It is clean, sits in an open garage but with time the dust is all over the truck. Is it better to cover it or the dust don't matter?
