During elk rifle season, heard about 8-9 shots from one direction. Come to find out they WERE shooting at an elk, 3 of the shots were point blank range to "finish it off"...Ridiculous...

:( I got the post hunt blues.. Happy I've filled 2 out of 4 tags but was really hoping to get after an elk this year. Don't think I can get after one on my own this year. Maybe I'll bug my boss to let me hunt his ranch and shoot a raghorn. Gotta act fast before they move to their wintering grounds.

I’m on a small private tract right now. They’re developing the 120 acres that adjoins it and the assholes put the new road right off of the property line. I’m sitting in my stand now and just watched trucks drive in and out. Guess I’ll be moving back off the line some from now on

still on the mend of a chest cold and wife has a depredation cow elk tag. So today was going to be good weather, decided to go anyhow. Jumped 3 deer coming in, saw 13 more deer thoughout the afternoon, saw 4 or 5 elk...about 700ish yards away, our range finder couldnt pick up the distance, but the closest was 649ish and still 50 or more yards away from that. Someone could have made that shot, but the other downside is it was up a freaking hill! I dont know the area too well so It could have been a haul. We didnt shoot anyhow. Not bad for a first trip in a new location. Coughed up some lung oysters on the way out...and I must say Im feeling a lot better...LOL

dwalden,,keep an open mind, deer are purty damn curious of any unusual activity that doesn't pose a threat, sooooo if yer on a trail or something, ya may not want to stray too far..:notsure: used to hunt a farm on the eastern shore, after picking beans or corn, the farmer would leave a piece of equipment out on the field for a day or so...deer magnet...:notsure:

    Totally agree with you.
In 2013 I had a 13 pointer come in and he stopped and was watching the farmer across the road cutting corn. He went up to the road turned around and came back. He stepped into the path of my arrow.
A few years earlier I setting up a climbing stand and turned around and there was a big buck watching me. He must of heard the noise and was curious. He just turned around and walked away. Never saw him again.
