    Hi,

I am about to purchase a 06 Tacoma double cab 4 x 4. The only problem is that I want to be sure that it has the TRD Off Road package.

The truck does not have the TRD decals or the hood scoop but the owner assures me that the suspension package was upgraded to TRD.

I live in Jamaica and regularly travel to rural areas plus the roads where I live are pretty bad. I've seen the off road models in action on rugged terrain and definitely want an off road equipped truck.

I plan to physically inspect the truck on Monday, is there anything that can confirm it has on the TRD package I can look for?

Are there any other areas of concern I should pay attention to when I go see it?

I've never owned a 4x4 truck before so I'm pretty clueless.

Look for the TRD seats. Thats the big give away right there, aside from the differential lock.

Any truck can have the TRD suspension, its just coils and bilstien shocks.

As in the passenger seats? Well they sent me pictures of the truck and the seats have no marks on them.

is there a certain reason you want the off road package? cause if its 4x4 its 4x4 nothing really to change that and it has a locking rear diff. and you should probably upgrade to the billstien 5100's anyways for a better ride then the stock ones.

Just make sure it has the locking rear differential, that's what you're paying for with the off-road package.

I really don't know how important it is to have the off road package. All I know is that I encounter 'off road' like terrain frequently (deep potholes, hilly terrain, flooded areas, steep slippery roads, etc.)

I remember seeing two 4x4 pickups mow down a rugged detour without a problem. It was as if they were on a circuit race track. I always said that whenever I own a truck, I must be able to drive like that without concern.

well looks like you would need to put a slight lift on this bad boy as well, and really if its a taco thats 4x4 you are good and if you put the 5100s they are more durable then the stock shocks i believe. Sounds like a fun place to have a truck haha

Yeah, its a fun place for a 4x4.

There are two types of vehicles you want here. A 4x4 turbo charged rally car (Evo or STI) or a 4x4 truck with a mean attitude.

I'm done with cars now. Looking forward to the Tacoma.:D

The seats will look like this if its a TRD truck.

The owner basically said that once I drive it I will know it has off road suspension. He said that in the US, you choose the custom additions you want to make when buying the truck and that the previous owner added TRD suspension when purchasing it.

He said that the fact that no TRD branding is visible should be of no concern.

It should be of concern is he's pricing it like a TRD branded vehicle. It's just a base SR5 model, and should be priced as such, regardless on whether he spent $250 on bilstein shocks or had the TSB done.

Are there any known faults with these trucks or any common issues due to poor maintenance or past accidents I should look for that may miss an uninformed person?
