While we were working on the S2 Thom Richard left for Monroe Carolina for the airshow this weekend.. Always fun to be close enough to touch a P-40... TP-40 actually, I think only 1 of 2 flying in the world today... Two place, one of these days I'm going to win the Powerball and get to ride in that puppy!!

    upload_2019-11-6_7-10-19.jpg

That hangar behind the nose in this picture is the FAMED Stallion 51 organization.. Major training and check ride location for learning how to fly a P-51 Mustang.. Crazy Horse I and II were flying all day yesterday in and out of the airport doing training.. And yes, for $5K you too could get a one hour training flight!! :) Hey my birthday is next week, just sayin!! :)

If your Son is serious about his future as an electrician, he needs to apply for an apprenticeship program. Four year IBEW or the non union ABC course. Both good programs with classroom theory along with documented field hours. Most employers pay for schooling with an agreement students will stay with the company one year after completion. There is a great need for skilled trades and possibly he could get on a prevailing wage grade job site if not union which pays according to your year in apprenticeship, all the way up to journeyman. Family sustaining good money. PM me if you have any questions.

When I read this I think of a young electriction at work. He finished his apprenticeship and making $30.00 hr. No student loans. All at the age of 24.

All skilled trades are hurting because “higher education “ is pushed.

And because no one wants to work.
You show them what's involved in a labor type job and they say
    "Oh no "

    I couldn't find it but I remember a video of a guy, believe it was a Northern California wood worker, who said something that really stuck with me;

"there are 2 kinds of people, those who shower before work and those who shower after. the world needs both".

Mike Rowe is an advocate of the trades and that college isn't for everyone.

We have told him about this and WECA programs. He wants to do it on his own and won't listen. Again a maturity issue. I want him to be successful but if he goes in with a bad attitude he gets labeled.
A little more in So Cal, but it dosent go far. He wants to go elsewhere. Just not sure yet. And a few medical issues to resolve.

Over the Road Truck drivers too. Average age of truckers these days is mid to late 50s. Just not the glamorous job it use to be. We need another Smokey and the Bandit movie.

    That wouldn't work now.
All the tree huggers complaining about kicking up the dirt
    And making noise
The national guard and swat teams would be pulling bazooka's
    Because of a Isis attack.

I saw a young lady ( at my age almost everyone is young) running down the road last month.
    Had to look twice.
Gave her a nice thumbs up.
She gave me a short blast reply...

Its always bad to lose good, hard working people. Never know if they'll be replaced and the new guys generally aren't that good. We're in the same boat here - lost 3 or 4 good people this summer and still haven't replaced them.
And the need to walk on eggshells to avoid damaging someone's ego... Been there done that. Keep your head down and keep working. Sooner or later it will backfire on them when they cant justify the way they're treating people. You guys have an HR person to handle complaints? My last job we didn't have one and it was rough - NOTHING ever got resolved when there was a conflict between folks because the boss just wanted to sweep it all under the rug and forget about it. Largely why I left that place...
Any other shops in the area your can go to? Or start your own...with the good guys that keep running away from the BS at the current place?

Do you keep track of mouse removal on your toolbox? How many tick marks you got? :boink: (sorry, can't resist sometimes)

Kid looked into this, all the companies are threatening to switch to autonomous trucks as soon as the technology is there. No one wants to start a career with that looming over thier head. Wether it is true or not

It'll be interesting to see what the future holds. Diesel mechanics are another high demand area and there always seem to be someone offering a better deal. Had one shop owner show us his new facility, beautiful setup, 10 bays but only 3 working. Because that's all the mechanics he could keep.
