Official 2019 NCAA Football thread

They’re punishing Clemson because the ACC is so bad. Their marquee win is aTm, which is a 3 loss team currently (and hopefully will have 4 losses after 9/23). Their next biggest win is, who, UNC? A current 4-5 team? Win out, and Clemson will be in. It’s not a big deal. OSU/PSU and Bama/LSU will knock someone out of the top 4 making way for Clemson. It’s not that big of a deal.

my biggest gripe is OSU at 1 over LSU. Texas (although not back), auburn, Florida - all better wins than what OSU has accomplished. OSU has looked more dominant in their games - but I don’t see their schedule as that tough. Indiana is 7-2, WI is 6-2. We’ll know more about them when they play PSU in 2 weeks, I guess. Other than that, their next best win is....4-4 Michigan st?

 

the only reason it is in fact a big deal, is that they straight up contradicted themselves in awarding alabama with the 3 spot and punishing clemson with the 5 spot. when clemson has a better schedule to this point. both of their best wins are A&M, but Clemson has 2 more wins over power 5 teams with winning records, Alabama has 0.

it's the same with OSU over LSU, literally the same argument.

It’s not a big deal because everyone’s going to beat everyone in the top 4. That’s why. Literally anyone in the top 6 can make it in right now. It’ll work itself out.

LSU and/or Alabama just have to win out, possibly even be ok with 1 close loss.

Ohio State same situation can probably afford a loss, but can win by 1 point or 100 doesn't matter.

Penn State has to win out, no matter by how much.

Clemson has to give blowout after blowout after blowout, just winning by 1 doesn't cut it.

 

The committee has shown every season that the criteria changes, and the order may be different every week based on what happens the prior Saturday. Everyone always makes a big deal out of it...but Clemson could easily jump in the top 4.

If clemson wins out they will be in..they literally will not leave out a undefeated defending champion. Clemson has a weaker schedule this year (not their fault, it's just the ACC this year)

 

yes, but what I'm saying is most everyone else is able to afford a loss, Clemson would have also been able to afford a close loss if they had been initially ranked higher and depending on the loss.

Alabama with a currently shittier schedule is going to potentially be allowed to afford a close loss.

also, if Alabama wins this weekend, I'd bet they go to #1, same if LSU beats Alabama. So LSU has to beat Auburn, Florida, Texas, and Alabama to go to #1...but Alabama only has to beat Texas A&M and LSU to go to #1?

I’m just saying there’s no need to bitch that much about the first playoff poll. It. Will. Work. Out. They left room for change and made these big games over the next couple weeks even bigger talking points. I 100% think that’s why they did it. OSU plays PSU, bama plays LSU. They were already huge games...now they’re even bigger.

Guess not being an SEC homer and seeing how a different conference was left out for the same reason another was left in isn't looked highly upon by SEC fans...oops.

 

I don’t care who got left out. Because, if you haven’t noticed, they’re going to be the first in when LSU loses this week and penn st loses next week. Then, guess what, all they have to do is keep winning to make the playoff. If they had lost early in the season, guess what, they would still make the playoff if they won out.

Clemson's schedule this year really doesn't allow for a loss to begin with, maybe a&m close? But again you say as of now, it don't matter, everything will work its way out in the end. Alabama still has 2 top 10 matchups + SECCG, OSU has 2 top 10 +B10CG...there's a lot of football left and like i said Clemson will be 2/3 as they should with an undefeated finish, again it's not their fault the ACC is horrific this year but it's just the way it goes but to say they have to blowout everyone to get in is a ridiculous statement.
