I have recommended that in the past and like the extra height, but the depth is compromised to get it in there and there are folks that say that they corrode easily. If you go this route, it might be a good idea to add some rust protection?

So... If I was going to cut, I think I would build a custom, purpose-built cubby. Stop me now...

I'd make a template out of a truck that has it and just use a router/laminate trimmer to make the cut.

A box for a compressor, recovery gear, firearms, whatever your needs might be. It's just a sheet metal and welding project. It could be better sealed and secured than the factory box.

I'll try to grab measurements after work tonight. I thought I had pictures on my phone of my current OBA install but I guess I dont. I need to build a splash shield to go in the inner fender well, I didnt realize how much crap gets thrown up into that area.

Have a look at this video at around 4:45. He shows you where to be careful when cutting, although I assume the Toyota parts will come with a template:

How do you think the 05-18 beds had cubbies? They were cut open and the cubby installed.

Oh, I would have thought the bed tubs were molded that way. I guess I am hesitant to cut into it because it's a large expensive part. If I were to cut or if I do my own, I'll build a purpose built container that is better than what the factory had.

A molded location might cause release issues from the mold.

The only caution for cutting would be to ensure the corners have some nice, smooth fillets to prevent cracking down the road even though it is probably not an issue there.

It's most def cut. Its an unfinished edge when you remove the assembly.

Do the layout, use a 1/2” drill bit to drill the corners and then cut it out. That way you don’t cut 90* corners that can crack.

I contacted Tuffy last week as I was interested in adding the left side storage box to my 2020 TRD OR. They said it does not come with a template or hardware to retrofit 19+ models, nor do they have any plans to update the product.

Didn't realize those things were so expensive. I was contemplating swapping my power outlet out for a cubby since I never use that thing.
