Flashlight, Olight vs Fenix

more specifically Fenix TK22 and Olight M2R Pro, both quality products.

Looking to add a 21700 battery light to the collection.
Both lights are pretty similar but the Olight uses a nice proprietary magnetic charging cable, so it would require a rare cable to charge or physically removing the battery. Fenix uses USB-C, which cables are abundant. Fenix also advertises a slightly farther throw and a tungsten bezel vs the Olight's aluminum bezel.

Olight is about $35 cheaper right now also.

Cant directly help with your question as I break and lose shit too much to spend top dollar on flashlights, (and sunglasses, pocket knives, etc) but I have been extremely happy with my sofirn v2 :

I have switched over to alot of 18650 powered stuff (led hangable lantern, hangable fan, headlight, cell phone charger) and bought one of those digital chargers. The Sofirn has been awesome for the price and will be ordering several for gifts this year.

 

I've always found it better to use a quality external charger anyway. My Nitecore headlamp didn't charge well at all, but I have a nice 18650 charger that does.

 

Definitely use an external charger. I have a nitecore and it works really well with the high discharge 18650s I use.

 

I voted Olight because it's 1800 Lumens, 1800! And it looks cool. Did you buy one yet? Yea, I'm a little late to this party.....

 

Deal breaker for me. I'm anti-proprietary any chance I get.

It would have to be twice the quality/output of the competition at 1/3 the price to get me to consider.

It is just a flashlight. Hopefully not a supplemental surgical tool.

 

I use fenix headlamps at work and have been extremely impressed with their durability and how waterproof they are. I use a nitecore charger as well.

 

I've been using fenix lights for over a decade, great torches. That being said between those two I prefer the olight. That fenix is sweet but sometimes gets caught up in my pocket due to the head being fatter. Better comparison would be the fenix pd35 style (pd36 will bring it closer to the lumens on the olight) vs that olight. But its just personal preference both are great lights.

I have a couple of their headlamps that are amazing. I have the tk75 with 5100 lumens which is amazing, and my favourite of all.... the uc35 v2.0. Its a great little light. I use it all the time.

I can’t weigh in on which of those brands or models is better but after years of using surefire, stream lights, pelican, etc for duty lights, I have been very impressed with all things Fenix.

 

Ouch! That much for a flashlight? Last ones I bought were just for backpacking, lightest headlamp I could get. Thought $20 to $25 was much.

I'm never without my Fenix RC11. I like the magnetic charging, don't have to disassemble it to charge it. I charge it when there is no difference between #4 and #5 setting. It's about 10 years old, I'm sure repeated disassembly to charge the battery would be hard on the o-ring.
I'm nearsighted, would be lost without it. I even bought a backup, since it's out of production now. You can still get it from ebay, amazon, etc. I've never worn out the original 2900/18650, but did upgrade to a 3500 when they came out. Also bought a few spare o-rings.

Fenix E30R just arrived. Smaller, lighter, brighter 1600 lumens, my new EDC. It re-sets to the lowest setting when turned off. I like that. Changed the hat clip to a pocket clip, from my RC11. Took a chance it would interchange... it does. Perfect!
I've also been using a small silicone ring, found on Anazon on the tailcap, for the times I need both hands free.

I also recommend Fenix, which is compact and of high quality. It has been with me as my EDC flashlight for many years, and I marvel at its sturdiness. The wear of the surface does not affect the use. I also camp frequently, and I find that in addition to basic functions, it can also be used to break hard things.
