Do you start requesting ACH payments too?

....Similar words worked out really well for some big vendors on here.....

    Sold!

In all seriousness, this is why I have zero interest in ever fabbing stuff as a business where I actually take money for work. I refuse to take payment beyond beer or captain for any fab work I do. Some people are old school wheelers that just want a bumper on their truck and are happy if it's not perfect and others are upset when there is a small nick in the powdercoat from shipping and the welds don't look like #weldporn from the gram. Then throw in each of the different generations of truck, and facelifts, and the fact that every truck varies a little bit and it becomes clear that fabbing in volume is a tough business case.

no, but be honest and up front. If someone tells me there’s a 3 month lead time, then I’ll either wait or I’ll look somewhere else.

as a business owner, you have to make that decision of if you’re going to cut corners or where you’re going to upset some (potential) customers. I for one, wouldn’t sell anything less than damn near perfect. Even if that means higher COGS or lower production capacity. Especially at the price that these bumpers go for.

I also would never get into this as a full time business. But I enjoy it and can make a few bucks doing it at night and on weekends

Dont forget getting sued by the person your customer hit when they were texting and obliterated the person's Chevy Enclave and evreyone blames your bumper.

I dont even like building shit for free for other people. I tell them my prices start at $10,000 and then show them my hack work and they tell me to get fucked. Mission accomplished!

I like your business plan! The more lawyer stuff I see at work, the more I appreciate having a large personal umbrella policy. They are less aggressive on individuals compared to larger companies but still will name anybody they can squeeze a buck out of in a lawsuit.

I just tell people to go buy a welder and figure it out. This hobby borderline requires a welder or else its infinitely more expensive and annoying to get stuff done.

More power to you, I'm good just booty fabbing stuff in my garage and helping out a buddy if he needs it :)

For the record, I think the vendor (any vendor) nut swingers are super annoying. The Mobtown guys in the NE, SOS in the Carolinas, BAMF in CA, and Marlin everywhere....

Lots of vendors make decent products these days and for some reason, when somebody buys the product, they feel a need to defend their choice to the grave instead of being honest about the experience....must be some sort of Stockholm syndrome

I like the idea of fabbing my own stuff but only put it into action maybe 1 in 10 times. Lots of good ideas though.

This. I also think it depends on the vehicle. On my 4runner, I want something that looks nice as well as functions. On a shitbox XJ I'd be fine bolting a railroad tie to it.

Yea being in safety and compliance before, and hopefully again soon, I hear you!! I wouldn't worry about personally being held liable to the point of needing personal lawyers at work, unless you do something grossly illegal, willingly did it, they can 100% prove it and your companies legal team is completely inept. Unless you are dealing with the EPA, they are a bunch of crazies with arrest authority, dont mess around with those guys. Crazy you can be involved in a serious employee maiming on your watch, and the company dishes out a 100k fine and some corrective actions and you are fine. Accieently spill some oil and it ends up in a creek they are handcuffing people.

Everyone in my building knows where the storm drain cover is and how to use it because the EPA is next level crazy!

I stumbled across this little gem of a thread too. Apparently switchpro is shady too but there is some serious nut swinging in there

I saw an old shitbox chevy truck recently with 2x6s bolted on as steps/sliders and galvanized 4" fence post for a back bumper. LOL
