Making the switch...

So, first thing first...I'm new to this forum so, Hey Everyone!!!. Second, I am making the switch from a 2002 Honda Civic sedan to a 2011 Tacoma . I've been eying this truck for a long time now, but had to go with a Civic for a few years while I was in school (better MPG when traveling >50 miles a day, 5 days a week). But, now I'm outta school and moved closer to my job and so the Civic has to go.

I purchased the 2011 Double Cab in the Magnetic Gray Metallic w/ the SR5 package, but it's a 4 cylinder (I don't need 4x4, not planning on towing, and I am still a little conscientious on MPG - hence why I didn't get a V6). The dealer said it will be here on Saturday for me to drive home! I can't wait!!! Not to mention I got it for $600 below invoice + fees and $1,000 off using Toyota's new graduate program).

I hope this truck will last me a lifetime! But, after reading some threads on this site it sounds as though a 4-cylinder was not a great choice...but coming from driving a civic I don't think I'll care.

the 4 cyl is great if you drive nice and slow
and dont plan to tow or carry anything heavy.

but on the few ocassions i do want to get up and go,
or carry 600 pounds of mulch, topsoil, or tow something
I want the 6 cyl.

I dont think the gas mileage is that great of difference.

or look at it this way
what was the size of your civic compared to the size of the truck?
still want a 4 cyl?

Got a call from the dealership today, delivery pushed back until Tuesday.

I thought I was going to have the weekend to break-in in my new ride.

 

The 2.7 is an awesome motor, no one can say what exactly the performance will be like because afaik you will be the first with this configuration.

That being said we'll expect a full review and pics.

My 2.7 pulls fine, and on a regular basis. Its been loaded down with 700lbs of floor tile and it didn't struggle a bit.

I have the 4x4 so i have the 4.10 rearend which helps with the towing and such, you will have the 3.58 rearend which will help with mileage.

 

Welcome! I love my 4-cyl...the V6 would have been nice, but just like you, I was just out of school (e.g. broke) and was concerned about gas mileage. I have 80k miles with no problemes and have hauled some considerable weight, even towing/hauling a combined ~3,700 lbs over 500 miles. You will not be disappointed!
