Bad Transfer case

    Devil Horns, Wet Okoles, WeatherTechs, Radflo Coilovers, OME Dakar's, FJC Gun metal rims, 265/75/16 BFG All Terrain TA/KO, Rear Diff breather Mod,
    I have been on the site lots over the last few years and have never heard of a blown Transfer case? I did a search with no good results.
    Toyota is replacing mine under warranty after they told me my diff seal wasn't covered because of lift. I haven't had any problems with my transfer case and I wheel the truck a fair amount.

    A lift has no affect on the diff seal.

    I was on the shop floor trying to tell the manager that. But as famous as Tacoma world is to me, the service manager in Owen Sound, Ontario Canada didn't believe me, and doesn’t care that I quoted "Chris 4x4".
    They are calling Toyota Canada but said it’s not covered.

    It's covered in the United States. The static end (non-flexible) of the cv joint does not move with a lift, whether a diff drop is installed or not. There are three things that will cause an oil seal to fail; age, improper installation, and run-out. If the bearing fails it will cause the shaft to rotate in an eccentric manor which, in turn, causes the seal to fail.

    To add, an overfilled system will also cause an oil seal to fail. Most oil seals are only rated for 15 psi. A heavy duty oil seal is rated at about 30 psi.
