Welding keeps me on my toes. Always something different. When Im put on the lathe or mill its always the same boring part over and over for 50 times. This week Ive been on the lathe for all my shifts making the same parts.

A lot of parents are stuck on the 'degree = jobs' mentality, fortunately that's starting to change. But it was definitely they way I was raised and I do wish I had been wiser about it when I was younger.

I had the same offer after highschool. Interestingly at a mold shop too. So glad I picked college instead. Nice knowing I can push near $80k or higher in my area for what Im doing now, versus $50k topped out as a tool and die guy.

I think its a worthwhile investment to atleast persue an associates degree in what you want to do. Even if it is 100% hands on, the paperwork will help you get in the door.

Bachelors degrees may be more worthwhile in some parts of the countries than others. Some companies value the hands on knowledge earned with an associates degree more than they do the book knowledge acquired with a bachelor.

Really depends on the field, too. Some fields it's better to just dive right in and get experience through training/assisting/interning than it is to spend multiple years and tens of thousands of dollars on a degree...because most employers for those jobs are looking for experience and/or portfolios that prove you know what you're doing, rather than a degree proving that you've studied it.

It really just comes down to what you're interested in pursuing I think

I hear that from young people a bit. Not from a single guy in the trades though that I've worked with or met. Never from any supervisors or managers in a particular trade. And the trade careers will love it if you show up with some certs. I mean I guess a degree before going into a trades could at least show dedication to finish college, even though doesn't help in that particular trade. Kinda unnecessary use of time and resource to go to college if you know you want to work in a certain trade. Certs are what I've seen make a difference, again that's just my experiences. Lots and lots of experiences out there for lots of different scenarios.
I dunno, I say just do what you love to do, be good at it, be honest and statistically you have as best a chance as you can at being happy with your work 20 years down the road.:D
Obviously this is all MY opinion based on MY experiences

    my Dad had a '78 f250 like that, 2wd 4barrel iirc

i pulled the piss out of a f150 in the back lube lot in late 1991, i recall his rig being a 4wd but we agreed he could not use it

... remember having the rear slider open and the burnt rubber fumes suffocating me
    but i won, bitch
    i won

A four-barrel carburetor has two primary and two secondary barrels. At idle and low-rpm driving, only the primary barrels open. ... As the secondary barrels begin to open, more air travels through the carburetor, supplying the engine with the air and fuel it needs.

I know you tagged him but I'm gonna say anyways, that gen and the one after it are my top Ford models. Hate to admit it but of all the full size manufacturers, Ford is the one I kinda have a soft spot for. Just always have liked them.
