I rented one through Outdoorsy a few years back. Was a pretty seamless process. Drove out to the lady’s house, hooked up the trailer and left. Returned it a week later and she wasn’t home so I just left in in front of her house, worked just fine. Trailer was clean and price was right...

One word of warning though... if you’re trying it out with the question of “will a trailer work for our family style of camping” then rest assured you’ll be owning one in no time! No sooner than a week after we finished our trip did the wife drag me down to the nearest RV dealership and start touring trailers... We still have our RTT but let’s just say it’s not getting a whole lot of use these days!

I'm in the same boat. Wife hates tent camping and wants to look into trailers or RV's. I don't like RV's and want freedom to drive off without putting everything away so looking like a trailer. With the 3 kids, it's going to be the only way I get the whole family out unfortunately (wife never camped as a kid). What did you end up with?

once you go camp in a trailer, its over for tents.

My wife has gone with me many times camping in tents but she still wants a trailer. Im fine with it because of where we go would be fine with one.

Eh, i grew up riding motocross (mostly of the trail riding/hare scramble/enduro/competitive hill climbing variety) and we always used our 5th wheel toy hauler.

When the primary focus was on the riding, the convenience and comfort of the camper was clutch... even if as teenagers we would pitch tents outside the camper so we could drink/smoke haha

but now that i dont ride much at all, camping is more about being in the wilderness away from people, so i enjoy sleeping in the dirt and making things harder than it has to be.

I have considered the idea of buying my dads 04 dodge 2500 off him when hes ready to get rid of it and slapping a giant slide-in camper in it.

6" lift on 36"s w/ a straight axle up front and airbags on the rear, total bro-dozer, but fucking A it would be a nice base camp with a heater and a stove when im out camping in the snow/wet weather.

We bought a Lance 1685. 18’ box, 21’ overall. With a slide out. Found it used, 2 years old and maybe used twice by an older couple. It was cherry when we bought it. Tow it with the wife’s T4R, or the Taco although the suspension hates it, and the swing out bumper is a PITA to deal with.

I hate to come back in here after a pretty long hiatus and start preaching trailer life... but the reality is what it is. The Wife and I put some pretty epic years on the RTT from Baja to Moab and a hundred trips in between, but once the kid factor hit, the amenities of a trailer are very welcome. The end result is, it gets us out more. We camp all year round, Yosemite, Sierras, Burney, CA Coast, Bend OR, etc etc, and without the trailer we wouldn’t.

Many of our trips include wheeling or at least some off-road exploration. The best part is, you can set up camp, unhook, and go explore. One of the hardest parts of RTT camping with the kids is the amount of setup and teardown necessary to change camps or go for a wheel...

Anyways, not trying to sway anybody’s opinion, but it’s worked for my family, and it gets us outside and camping a helluva lot more than we would without it... feel free to pm or hit me up on the cell if you care for more pics/info...

I thought we were talking about off road trailers. Thats some pimp glamping setup right there. I wish i could. Sleeping on the floor with my back issues is starting to get old. I can only do 2 nights now before im over it. Tossing the idea around of a roof top tent....wish i could afford a room on the back of my bed. I think they call them vagabound? ;)

I have been leaning this way for trips with the family, it just makes sense. If I want to go camping on my own with the guys I can take the just the truck.
Trailer looks awesome, how well does the Tacoma pull it other then the suspension not liking the trailer? The thing I worry about is pulling it up hills?

Awesome, there is more than enough Drifter and RTT talk on here for all the single and no kids guys. This is now my reality. I feel like we would get out a ton more as well with one.

We need more talks like this besides RTT and drifters. This is a soon reality of what I’ll be doing soon. We’ve done a bunch and traveled with the RTT and normal tents but wife really wants a camper and I’m not opposed.

like you said you can go whenever and not stop you where I would normally plan around weather.

I’m pretty sure all but a couple of the NorCal drifter owners are married with Kids. I think the elevated sleeping and living space is a huge selling point for families.

Went to swap from flowmaster exhaust ( because it's dumps under my back seat and is too loud until i can get a shop to add some pipe so it dumps further back) back to the stock one I got from @rob1208

Problem though... none of the hangers are nearly close enough back to the flowmaster for now I guess.

Do you actually need to replace your lowers?

Edit: and why not just get aftermarket UCAs if your planning on a lift?
