Our son just bought a beautiful 06 Tacoma 4x4. I cant do it. I wont pay the price they are getting. I'm a old Chevy (k1500) and Jeep (WJ) guy. He's got the newest vehicle this family has ever owned! It has aftermarket rims and that Tire Pressure Sensor system. I am assuming the TPS only works with the stock rims. He bought it with that "low tire pressure" light blinking on and off and he suggests it can be "reset" to work with the aftermarket rims. I dont know if thats possible because its too advanced for my knowledge base. I'm guessing to get the symbol to stop blinking, you have to pull the bulb, or cover it up. Can anybody help us out?

Should be able to reprogram them.
Not sure if the 06 has it in the spare but check that pressure out as well.

After market rims and tires. All the tires are at 40psi which is higher than the stock tires. The drill to "re-set" the system we found online does not stop the blinking. The 06 system does monitor the spare. The tires came at 40psi and we are assuming thats what they should be. I usually keep the tires at whats on the name tag on the body unless there is a huge difference in the tire size. The stock tires call for 29psi which seems low for the size of these tires.

1st thing, check to see if there's even TPMS sensors in the wheels. Look and see if you see a nut on the valve stem that looks like this. It's grey and has that round pipe look to it. If it has rubber valve stems, or chrome stems with a regular looking chrome nut, there's no TPMS sensors.

There are aftermarket TPMS sensors with rubber stems, but I doubt you have those.

Correct me if I am wrong but can’t you put sensors in any rim? The valve stem holes are universal size aren’t they?

The tpms should work on the aftermarket rims. One or more of them may have a dead battery and/or not communicating w/ the computer for some reason. A good tire shop or the dealer should be able to test them and pinpoint the dead tpms.
It's not necessary to have though. If you check your tire pressure often, you'll be fine.

Yea I would make sure the TPMS sensors are even there. Original owner could’ve bought new wheels/tires and not had them switched over upon install. Also check that spare.

I'm old school like I said. From what I understand this is a government want, nothing any reasonable vehicle or person needs. I'm 70 and have never owned a vehicle with this and I have IMG_2812 (1).jpg IMG_2812 (1).jpg never needed it. Any dumbas can figure out if they have a flat tire or not. I just want to help him get rid of the blinking light on the dash. This a photo of the stem in the rim. Does it look like a TPS to anybody?

    Yes thats a tpms stem

If those are the original sensors from 2006 then im sure all the batteries are dead. Either replace them (all 4) and program them up or live with the blinking light

Seems like they would have a fuse or something you can pull to get the light to go off.

Typically fuses serve more than one function. A fuse might be for it and maybe the horn and some other thing(s) he needs. His trucks didnt come with an owner's manual, but I will look to see if I can find a photo of the fuse block.

    likely dead battery.

the control box is above the headliner at the back driver side corner. if you don't care about sensors, you can pull the wires to the box...

some people cut the wire down in the harness. i hate wire cutters

you can put in new sensors if you want to spend the money.

or, like i have for the past 100K miles, you can just let it blink.

i suppose you could also try resetting them first. instructions in the owners manual

If they fit and if the batteries are still good and if they are compatible with that years ECU they will work. If not all three they will not. They will need to be programmed with a tool. Another option is to ignore the warning.

Your problem is 29psi in spare and 40psi in the other four, the comp thinks the spare is going flat.
I have an 06 and mine still work, flashing dash light means that parameters are out, all five must be within like 5 to 10 percent of each other.
If that don't help, like others have said go to a tire place and have them read them with their comp.
If they are not stock but aftermarket they need to be programmed to the truck.

You can easily open your dashboard up and cover or remove the LED. I covered mine up and can barely see it blinking at me at night.
While you're in there, you can rip off the door open buzzer from the back of the speedo too.

No need to freak. Just replace them with aftermarket units like these: https://pdqtpms.com/. About $35 each. Been running them for 7 years in my 4Runner, 3 years in the white Taco, and a few months in the silver one.

I have a lot of cars and trucks. Only 2 of them have TPMS. I wouldn't spend the money to add it to all my other vehicles, but I do like the TPMS on the vehicles that have it. That being said, I have never shredded a tire on the freeway. However, it's nice to be able to check all my tire pressures by simply looking at my Scangauge and if there's a low tire while I'm on the road, the light will come on to catch my attention and I can do something about it before it's too late.

For people that drive with the light on or blinking, you get so used to lights on that you may not notice when another light comes on. Like oil pressure.

Which one are you using? Looks like OPA-3011S is the closest fit but 48/ea. Not even really sure what the differences between them are aside from metal/rubber.
