Does the GPS update to the latest data or not? IS there a place to buy new?

I have a 2017 Tacoma. It has Entune. Does anyone know if this is a good app or is there another app that is compliant better that works with my system?

    Entune is terrible app, terrible.
GPS is a SD you have to buy from dealer...not generally worth it.

First, you really need to check to see what version update you have. I believe that you can find it in the menu somewhere. Then you need to check and see what version is available for purchase. They only make updates every 2 or 3 years.

    PS: Welcome to TW.

Use mine all the time, it's not google but it works well for what it is imo

Edit: and yes it's an SD card you have to buy from the dealer or online for cheaper

I must have a lemon. It doesn’t stay connected, the text app works only on occasion, the menu options don’t allow skip so I can’t use the steering wheel controls. Yes it is not google, but in this century it should be better than AOL of last.

Dunno if I would call it reasonable. Drop $30-40k+ on a new truck, and Toyota includes a screen with nav capability but not the basic software needed to operate it? And its something you can get on your phone for free? For that reason it isn't necessary but it seems awful petty not to provide at least an initial map SD when you buy the truck. Even if it's not the best system I'd prefer it to using my phone.

If we need to buy this card separate when we buy a new truck I'm surprised the dealer wasn't all over me to buy this.

It isn't separate. The GPS will not function without it. However, the updates are not free.

Prefer using maps on my phone for navigating because the live traffic updates make avoiding accidents and congestion better and more accurate ETA times. The trucks gps is okay but when you live in a growing area like we do it gets outdated pretty quickly - the phone gps is always up to date

If your truck came w/o a navigation SD card, then somebody stole it out of there. Maybe during a test drive. They're pretty easy to get at.

OK, so it was supposed to come with a map card? Mine did not. The mini tie downs the dealer added on the sticker sheet also weren't there. Guess I'll be calling the sales rep back. He wasn't thrilled when I called him on the tie downs. But if it's on the sticker it should be on the truck. Thx

Yes it seems, hard to believe that something most people get on there phone for free is a premium option, and worse yet a 100 garmin or tomtom works so much better.

I’m honestly shocked they still charge for GPS since most people will just use their phone. The system in the truck is a pain in the ass to work with. My daughter broke my phone a couple weeks back and I have to go to different places I have never been for work. Well I had literally just had my ACL/MCL torn in the job so I was going to a lot of doctors appointments. That SUCKED! The system just takes so much longer to use than just typing something into the phone or clicking on the link

Last vehicle I owned was a Lexus and the GPS sucked really bad. Didn't even begin to compare with Google, Garmin, etc. Never again will I buy a vehicle that comes with GPS.

Just put in a new Kenwood HU with CarPlay. Never looking back on the antiquated Entune system.

OP, there was a post a few months back where someone found an extra SD card in their truck, maybe it was yours. :broccoli:

But yeah, a new truck is supposed to come with the card installed.
