    Welcome to the group.

As noted above, now is the time to get a rust inhibitor on the underside. Fluid film, wool wax, or Amsoil HD metal protect. Easiest is to have surfandturf spray fluid film on it or buy spray cans (Napa where I live carries it - probably 4 cans, maybe 1 or 2 more). Wool wax kit is available on line in gallons with a special spray gun for an air compressor. Amsoil is also in a spray can (4 cans should be plenty).

For your second upgrade get GOOD floor mats. I prefer Husky's many others like Weathertech and there are others. But take my word, Tacoma carpet does not stand up to winter.

Even for a brand new truck? I though there was a factory undercoating/painting that would be good for the first year?...then after that I would do undercoating. I was well aware of rusting with my '86 truck for sure.

Agreed! Got the Tacoma rubber winter mats. I'm no fan of carpets either. Was looking at the Husky's or Weathertech. Thanks.

Personally, if I knew then what I know now I would have had mine done before it’s first winter last October.

OK, that's good to know. I imagine others will same the same based on the initial comments. And for $40...why not!

Yes, on a brand new truck. Tacomas still have a frame rust issue. The frame replacement campaign was recently extended up to 2017 year trucks. Nothing has changed with the frames.

Took tomorrow and Monday off to get some outside stuff done before it's too late.

Still have 4 more days that I need to use up in between my coworker taking all of his time off the last 2 weeks and a half at the end of this month, and 3 more days next month.

On the list for tomorrow is getting all of my outdoor stuff into the shed, grabbing a ton of wood pellets for my insert, possibly cleaning up the leafs across the street and cutting the grass one last time. If I don't finish it all tomorrow, I'll tackle it Saturday, or Monday if need be.

Sunday I'm going to the Giants game with my two cousins and a few of their friends.

    @Truckzilla

This is why you do rustproofing .

    2013
    TRD Sport with Fluid Film,
applied by @surfandturf ( Matt) on this board )does a great job the pic indicate this , and I just had my frame inspected and it passed. The manager called the mechanics in the shop to come over to take a look , they took pictures and were impressed.

So consider this approach to rust proof.

My truck is never garaged , no off road etc.

Welcome to the group and we will help you spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] For those who may have not considered Fluid Film take a look .

Application by Surfandturf on this board from the Tacoma group in Connecticut Fluid Film

This truck is not garaged, outside all the time, off road consists of turning into thee driveway, 59400 miles.

    Enjoy

This is great...Already trying to find a time to have surfandturf do the treatment. Thank you!
