It is true for second gens but only because the alternator was not designed to charge AGM batteries. However, tricking the ALT-S will up the current enough to sufficiently charge an AGM type battery. HK electronics sells a fixed fuse and a variable fuse for this reason. This has nothing to with needing solar power though.

Here is the evidence (Flooded cell type batteries require a different charge rate than AGM)

Then quit saying it. Regurgitating ridiculous claims like that is so annoying.

Fair enough. I didn't intend to perpetuate the claims. If I projected that intent, I apologize. I was only trying to point out what potential thoughts might trigger interest in this item.
To further your point, the claims didn't prevent me from buying the AGM batteries.

Leave it to an engineer to pick an AGM battery his stock voltage regulator can’t charge perfectly, instead of picking something else and being fine. Lol.

In fairness, the engineer (I assume you mean Toyota engineer) designed the alternator with a voltage regulator designed for what the truck came with stock, a flooded lead acid battery and not an AGM.

We have designed this panel to handle the heat from the engine bay. Solar efficiency will always decrease when the panel is heated up, however the main purpose of this panel is to keep your battery topped up when the vehicle is not running...and therefor is not creating any extra heat.

Never in my life did I need a solar panel for my gas powered car. I guess to each their own?

No. I meant the guy who modified his voltage regulator.

And no, it was designed to charge within a certain voltage range that didn’t satisfy that one manufacturer of AGM batteries specifications. Shit happens.

Anyways, solar panel is cool. Not that much money cool though.

To everyone mentioning the price of the system...keep in mind that this is not just a solar panel. While it may seem pricey, this is a complete vehicle specific solar system that has been designed from the ground up to withstand the rigors of offroading/overlanding and includes everything necessary for a clean, seamless installation. This system negates the need for a dual battery setup while also complementing a dual battery setup if you already have one.

Note the these panels will start a dead vehicle within ~30-45 mins in decent light conditions.

    The kits include:

    - Custom designed solar panels built to withstand the rigors of offroading/overlanding
    - Waterproof MPPT Charge Controller
    - Custom cut clear hood vinyl with vinyl installation tool
    - 3M VHB adhesive and weather stripping
    - MC4 Connectors and all wiring necessary right down to the zip ties and zip tie blocks to complete a clean installation

Each of these kits is put together in our Canadian warehouse and backed by a 2 year warranty. :canada:

LOL, I am one of those guys and no, not an engineer. So while you are freezing your sack off at JBER or Greeley you can do some research on AGM chemical battery composition and the science applies to all not just one battery manufacturer.

I agree, the panel looks cool, but is way too expensive for my taste. Convenience ain’t cheap.

Negative. I am a civilian technician. I used to turn wrenches, now sit at a desk and tell people how they’re wrong.

    I checked it out.

Cool product. I do share some of the concerns mentioned, but I'll stay subbed and hopefully someone with more money and time can support the performance of this system.

I like how clean the install is.
