No problem, here a few more pictures to give you an idea of what your getting into lol. I might buy a different usb port that fits just for the plastic port its self. Finding a automotive female/Male connection that doesn't have to be wired is hard enough.

Looks like with some OCD measuring, a steady hand and my dremel, it won’t be too difficult. That little trim piece will hide the actual cutout, assuming I keep it snug enough to hold the inner trim in place. But then again, a little super glue goes a long way and having the trim piece that holds the female USB cable end is worth the hassle.

Worked for my issue, thanks @Flaco2000, I didn't cut all the way across, but I did notch the corners of the panel just enough that I didn't have to push up and pop out the lower spring clips putting in the climate control. All locked in place now..

On to the next issues, I'm not big in audio / video stuff. I need to find the right adapter to make the shark fin antenna connect to the GPS connection. The right adapter to move the camera from the mirror to the HU. And the part to make the HU able to play videos without telling me it can't play videos while moving.

I'm glad it did! I hooked up a front camera and it looks good. I'm still trying to figure out the usb and there's a good youtube video on how to move the backup camera to the HU. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIZZAtEcBqk Keep me posted about the on the shark fin.

Hey dude, thoughts on this? I randomly came across these little guys. Seems to be from the same seller. They seem to almost measure up right from their description. I took a shot in the dark and bought a couple. We'll see if they arrive before 2020

Link doesn’t work as it tries to take me to your eBay account. But yeah, I’d be willing to try one of those as well. My headunit is supposed to be delivered Thursday but I’m not in a huge hurry to get it installed. Want to get all the wiring sorted out and purchase a car solutions front camera kit so I can do everything at once.

Hey guys, anyone else put their rear camera into the HU? Does it have guide lines at all? Not that I need them but just wondering.. Something you can turn on or off on the HU?

Also, there are three USB one pair to the same connector and the other all alone, any difference of use for those?

I don’t think it has the lines but under the factory setting there’s a function that if you have a front camera it gives you the option to the camera to come on for 3 seconds right after you switch from reverse, I personally think that’s pretty cool.

Hey fellas. I've been creeping on this thread for a while now. I ended up buying a MAX6 unit off Amazon with built in CarPlay. I thought I'd write a summary of my experience so far for anyone else that might be thinking about going this route.

    Installation:
    • Dasaita MAX6 for 2nd gen taco
      • 3.37 rom
      • 20191031 firmware
    • I have a 2013 Tacoma, non JBL head unit originally.
    • Installation was pretty easy, it helps to use a plastic trim puller at the top of the radio when removing. My dash ate one of the yellow clips when it all came flying out.
    • The harness was plug and play. I did end up adding a ground wire to the chassis which seemed to help get rid of some of the background noise everyone is talking about. Maybe it was a placebo, idk :notsure:
    • The clock/hazard bracket from my 13 doesn't work as mentioned in this thread. I found a face plate off an earlier model on eBay for $25 that had the bracket I needed and it worked! (bonus: it came with more yellow clips!)
    • Everything snapped in once I had the new bracket on. I didn't bother modifying the stock metal brackets.... seemed unnecessary after pulling the stock radio out, those clips really hang on tight!
    • Fitment is OK. The radio trim panel sticks out a but further than the dash (1-2mm).
    How it works:
    • Sound quality CAN be good, but it takes some tuning and it really depends on the app. Forget the A2DP (bluetooth app), there's a lot of distortion. The radio sounded like a small walkman initially. Made my kicker 6x9s sound like tiny speakers. I messed with the DSP a bit and got it sounding better. Cool. Switching to carplay... with the same DSP settings, music sounded like some high school kid just found the bass knob (and cranked it up). So back to the DSP I went and got it sounding better. This is kind of annoying because if I switch from one to the other, I need to change my DSP preset. It would be nice if it remembered your settings for each app...
    • The radio tuner app is OK. I wish it supported HD radio....
    • Apple CarPlay is nice. It works both wired and wireless. I've noticed the quality is slightly better wired. When wireless it occasionally skips and the screen lags a bit.
    • Most of the apps that come loaded on it are useless, but you can download more! I installed the basics, google maps, VLC, spotify, Netflix... You can load apps that dont show compatible in google play with an APK.
    • The steering wheel controls all work. You can program 2 functions per button which is pretty cool.
    • The display quality and size is awesome. Way better than a double DIN unit.
    • I've been using the AGAMA car launcher and I'm pretty happy with it. Worth the $2.
    • Occasionally apps crash and the audio hand off between apps isn't that great.
Overall, I would say I'm happy with this head unit. It has some quirks, but I'm hoping those get worked out with software updates. I was looking at other units before finding this thread and I was discouraged by the price with all the add ons. The Dasaita checked all the boxes and seems worth the money so far.

That's what I was going to do, this is another Gen2.5 write up, a couple of us have 2012s so I've been keeping track of what we've seen.. I'll post something when I get the rest of the pieces parts done..
