I get that but doing it with a buddy and myself I was only out the seal and gear oil. Saving me bunches of money for beer.

Won’t the oil soak the brake shoes and render that drum useless?

Just the brake shoes the drum itself can be wiped clean.

Yes and no.... metal is porous and can soak in the oil. You can usually get away with wiping it down then heating it up with a torch to burn off any oil that might be present in the metal.

You can actually sometimes bring pads / shoes back to life by soaking them in some 91% rubbing alcohol, then take a torch to them as well. The alcohol will help pull the oil out of the very porous pad material as it burns off. But for the price that pads / shoes really arent just do it right, new pads.

The shoes and drums are already soaked. Soaking them more is not going to change the outcome.

The rear wheel bearings need to be changed. The gear oil has washed the grease out of the bearings and they will fail soon if not replaced.

Why does everyone always whine about the rear drums, if you just maintain your rear brakes by cleaning and adjusting on a regular basis they come right off.

I thought the rear wheel bearings were already bathed in gear oil as is? (its not like we have a semi / full floater rear)

Nope. The rear bearings sit on the outside of the axle seal.

On a side note, these were the original axle seals from 2009. My truck has almost 107K miles and this is the first anything like this has happened.

Whenever I bring it in for service anywhere, I always get compliments on how well maintained it is.

By useless I meant overall brake function. As Nd4 said, the drums don’t have to go in the trash. That’s not what I meant.

At this point, these are just taking up space in the storage area under my back deck; Come and take them off my hands or I will be scrapping them before the end of the year!

$50/Willing to ship if buyer pays all costs!

I bought these on Tire Rack back in October 2013 and they were on my truck for more than five years. I switched back to stock wheels in March 2019 because I couldn’t find A/T white letter tires that fit them.

The wheels are in okay condition, but the shiny lip parts need to be be redone. Other than that, wheels are solid and ready for use. Center caps and hub adapters included (see pics). Please excuse the dusty appearance of the wheels, as they have been sitting in the storage space under my back deck for several months.

These wheels will fit any 2nd Gen 5-lug and I assume they will fit 1st Gens as well.

They will also fit 1993-2011 Ford Rangers, and presumably all years of Rangers. So, if you know anybody with a Ranger who wants rims, tell them!

The black finish Platinum Apex is no longer in production; They still make silver and chrome finish versions which I saw for $112 apiece new online. The black ones are the best looking in my opinion!

These wheels can be equipped with TPMS sensors but none are included in this sale.

Located in Warrington, PA; As-Is, with no warranty expressed or implied; WILLING TO SHIP IF BUYER PAYS ALL COSTS. My email is TheStampedOctagon@gmail.com but I would prefer you contact me via PM here on TW. Again, $140 with no reasonable offer refused.

So I got a 2019 Camry as a loaner, and my phone fell under the driver’s seat. I looked under the seat and found a condom...

Granted, it was unused and still in the wrapper, but thinking about what has probably gone on in that Camry...
