Retro fit auto LSD??

Newbie here....love my new 08 Taco....can't stand the open differential !!!
driving around in rain is ridiculous, tires break loose at every light(not a lead foot either)....

Is there a way to retrofit the (brake actuated)auto lsd on my ride?? I know the 09's come standard with it......If not,any other options?(besides selling the damn thing and getting hosed)

may i ask if some weight on the bed could help solve that?? i was wondering the other day..

 

What tire pressure you run at?

I have the mechanical LSD and my tires break-loose when the roads are slightly wet ...In fact, It did it today (34psi in tires).

That's the whole deal with having a pickup truck. The rear-ends are soooo damn light weight, doesn't take much to break'em loose. Lower tire pressure might help keep the tires on the road.

I'm not sure the Auto LSD is gonna help you .... if both tires are cutting loose - the brakes probably won't intervene. The auto-LSD works when one of the tires is spinning while the other one isn't.

 

only one side breaks loose....and they are at full pressure....maybe let a few pound out??

You could try letting some pressure out of the tires and/or adding weight in the bed. However - lowering tire pressure and adding weight to the bed will suck up a little bit more gas.

That's something pickup trucks are known for - with vitually no weight in the bed (compared to anything else). It's definately something to get used to if you've never had a truck before. When its raining, you just gotta give yourself more room (at an intersection) to get out into traffic and use a lighter gas.

 

I'm running about 34psi allterrains i was hauling wood last week and the tire would still break loose its really the only thing that makes me think i should have gotten the more expensive sport.

 

The Sport version isn't really gonna help ya either. I have the Sport (Access cab).

I doubt there'd be much difference in a Sport Double cab....(in terms of more weight near the rear-end). But - I dunno..??

 

Trucks are very light in the rear and consequently they dont get very good traction. my 05 TRD acces cab with Lsd doesnt hook up in the rain ether. the only thing you can try is like the other guys said, add weight to the rear and put your tires at 32 psi. Off road tires arnt designed for maximum traction on the road so you could use a softer more streetable tire but then that changes the look your after. I would just say its something you have to get used to!

 

yeah man you really will get used to it after a while I have been around trucks most of my life. I went a few years with only cars and just got my toyota a few months ago. Mine is the off road package so the locking dif doesn't do me any good when I'm on the streets in the rain. But being used to trucks I haven't had any difficulty keeping my tires firm on the ground. Its not even something I think about when its raining. give it a little while and you will see.
