Minivan vs. moose... think roo bars would be worth it?

Roo Bars? As mentioned earlier, although Aussies use them for deflecting kangaroos, a lot of people also get them for deer, too. But don’t worry about roo bars for moose, I think your steel skids would just let a taco jump over a (dead or laying down) moose anyways, and would brand it’s butt with the Mobtown cutout logo in reverse on the way over...

 

and fuckin' terrifying. I'm more afraid of a moose, than most bears.

To be fair, these crashes weren't actually caused by squirrels...they were caused by drivers who decide to yank the wheel to try avoiding the squirrels. I can understand wanting to avoid a large animal, but something small should become part of the pavement if it is dumb enough to run out in front of a moving vehicle.

 

This is a pretty standard thing driving nights in Canada.. Wait until the snow comes and they are on the road licking the salt..

 

Just to be fair to the squirrels, the size of the nuts they were carrying had no difference in the number of accidents they caused, either!

 

they have salt licking issues for bighorn sheep in the mountain states like Colorado. Multiple sheep in groups have died on roads at the same time doing that.

 

As a geologist, most of my life has been spent working in the woods. A bull moose in the rut is one of the most stupid, unpredictable and dangerous things out there...I agree, far worse than bears!

That being said, they are impressive!

I had a summer job in high school doing house construction. The tile guy, an old hippie that occasionally had his space-cadet flashback moments, drove a late 70's Dodge tradesman van. One day he didn't show for work, which had us worried. For a space cadet the dude was usually punctual. At 4:45, almost quitting time, he finally showed up in the driveway. That giant beast of a van had the entire front end smashed. I'm pretty sure the whole engine block was pushed back, and the A-pillars above were severely deformed, almost gone in fact. How he still managed to drive it up the mountain, I have no idea. Poor guy hit a bull moose at 60 mph. He told us he was late because he had to find some flowers, have a cry, and write a nice speech for the moose funeral. Pretty sure that whatever scolding he was about to get was all forgiven after he said that. But anyways, after I saw what that moose did to that van, there is no amount of armor that could have stopped it.
