The other possibility is that the bed lights are operated by the cargo light switch in the 2020+ and that wiring has changed. I noticed they have a function check for the cargo light switch.

 

Need a brave soul to uncover the harness before they install it...

I have seen it mentioned in the part number thread that the bed lighting does in fact use the cargo light switch in the 2020s and this is supposedly pre-wired. The talk there was that you just need to order the lights and harnesses to plug in at the rear. I don't have the kit yet since it isn't available. I would love to hear from someone with a 2020 that has the bed lights installed that can confirm.

 

At least for the '16-'18 I thought the bed light wiring ran to the drivers side, not passenger...that's at least the instructions route it when thinking of using the bed lights pn

I'm interested in the new 2020 bed lights though for my for '17; they appear a lot more clean lined than past versions that stick out from the composite bed liner

 

Having it wired into the cargo light switch on the drivers side would be awesome for those with earlier 3rd gens

 

So I get this right, this is the Oem version of the pop n lock? But technically for 19+

 

yes but it's plug n play; no splicing! I think it'll work for the earlier 3rd gens also (I'm going to attempt it)

 

Love to see a pic of the Y harness up close and all sides. See if the wiring colors have changed.

I just read through the install instructions. I like how thorough they are and the extra care on the harness near the exhaust. But the pop n lock is plug n play with the pnp harness by Katie. BUT the included bezel for the bed and tailgate are a cherry on top. And it seems this is fused when I don’t think the other options are. I haven’t even installed my pop n lock with the pnp harness so I may buy this kit and sell the pop n lock setup I have.

I think the only reason the cargo light is on the check because of the jumper harness so they say to check it to make sure the connections are fine- basically open the passenger door and make sure the lights come on

Ps what do you mean by the jumper harness? The harness for the tailgate assembly?

 

I would guess so. I doubt the connector changed so that wouldn’t be the problem. The only thing to double check would be the wires in the jumper and if they match up with the stock connector I think. But it would still be possible to repin if necessary- again I think

I call the added harness that plugs between the original connector and the truck the jumper- maybe that’s wrong.

These are PK3B6-34JP0, per the bag. The part numbers are in the photos I posted earlier. I can take photos of the Y harness later. I’m pretty sure this will work for me now so I’ll rip open the body harness bag.

 

Ah I see what you mean; the jumper being the conduit between the factory port and factory harness, makes sense....$140 on sparks parts plus 5% off discount code when using robmotive as the promo code.

I hate how Toyota wouldn't just say whether it would retrofit to early years, geez!

Hopefully this works for my '17, if so the next mod is 2020 led bed lights!

 

That part probably won’t be available separately. I check (although only 1 place) and it didn’t find it

 

PK3B6-34JP0 are a bonus (imo) because you can always unravel the backup camera wiring loom, add the tailgate wire and close back up the loom; this way you still have just one wire moving between the tailgate and the bed...a cleaner look but it's a bit more work

 

I was going to do that but not if I get this kit instead.

 

Yea I'll probably do the same, use the new groumets; why mess with oem engineering lol
