I'm Sorry But What Size Tire Wheel With Kings

I've tried and tried to figure this out on my own with this forum and searching this thread and that forum. I've gone to Caliraised offroad and talked with Randy in person. (Great Guy). I'm going for function over form with a nice set of wheels.
I want a cushy soft ride. I want to be able to hit speed bumps in parking lots and dive-bomb through dips on roads with ease. I test drove a pro before getting the off-road and could feel the difference. I don't want to have to do any cutting of metal to get rid of rubbing.
What I think I want are 275/70/17,,, on some nice 17 inch rims as I'm concerned and been warned to go with 17 so as not to risk hitting the brakes. I'm planning on going with King's front and back. I have a short wife and need, want to only go as high as needed, and would almost prefer to stay as low as possible, I'm only concerned with clearance and ride quality, with no rubbing. not worried about going any higher than 1 inch, but I think Kings will make me have to go up more. Or is there another great shock that will provide fill my wants.
Yes, will go off road but not big-time crawling. I'm an old fart. 60.
I'm so confused with offset, backspacing, poke. What wheel specs should I go with? I dont want to stick out any farther than stock other then what a little fatter tire might. Should I stick with the 265/70, Can I get a 16-inch rim without drama. Thank you very much for your suggestions and time and sorry for failing in not finding this out on my own.

Not quite sure what you mean by "not risk hitting the brakes" but 17" wheels will be fine for you. On 265/75/17's you shouldn't rub anywhere under "normal" driving conditions, especially if you do not remove your sway bar.

This website is a great tool for learning and checking tire/wheel info. 265 is the width of the tire, 75 is the height, 17 is the wheel size. This picture can help, the size you want compared to stock.




King is definitely the "best" most people will tell you. I personally don't have them(yet) but a lot of people I wheel with do and they love the ride. The front coilovers are adjustable. I think anywhere between 1.25" and 3". So if it is too tall for your wife you can crank them down lower. Remember every time you adjust them you will need to get an alignment. Also, if you decide for whatever reason to have them higher than 1.75", you will need to get aftermarket UCA's(Upper control arms) to allow you alignment to get back within spec.

Another option with the King's is to get them with Compression Adjuster. This allows you to adjust the "ride quality" so to speak. Make the ride harder or softer depending what you want. Getting them will add a few hundred $ to the price though.

Also, when you are deciding what spring rate to get with the Kings, with no other aftermarket parts, I'd suggest 600lbs springs.

 

My setup is basically what you suggested. 265s on 17s with Kings at stock height. Just don't turn the collar on the Kings when they arrive. By default they are set for about 0.5-1" of lift in the front and ride better when set lower. As for wheels check out the Toyota part number

Thank you so much, your post was a great help. (Hitting brakes?) I have read that on some 16 inch rims the calipers hit the weights put on the wheels for balancing purposes. At a reputable 4wheel shop the salesmen told me to go pick a wheel in the 17 inch class to eliminate that chance.
I messed up in my post you read. I made an edit, 265/75 tires don't come in a 17 inch but does in 16 inch.
I would be thrilled to get into some 275/70 on a 17 inch rim. The site you suggested I have been on every night for the past 2 weeks. The site tells me I would be 1.5 inches higher then my truck stock now,per my wishes. I was hoping with Kings and only an inch lift it will leave me some clear sailing.
So I need to know what offset etc will work and am afraid to ask a rim salesmen as they tend to push what they have in stock. I'm thinking I need to get the specs on the trd pro rims but they go on a 4 runner. I almost like them very much but not enough. I was also told by a shop that on kings the lowest it can be lifted is 2 inches, maybe 1.5 inches , I then get a response from by this thread that they can be set at stock.

I'm hoping for a wheel and tire that stand 1.5 inches higher and.4 wider and I can set the Kings at no more then a 1inch lift and not rub. That would be great. So what specs on a 17 inch rim gets me there is what I want to find out.
My wife is 4.999 ft tall and I have sliders. More then an inch lift definitely more then 1.5 inches will get me in trouble.

Your specs of 0 offset and 4.75 back spacing sounds like what I need. Are there specs that are even more optimum for our truck?

 

Stock wheels are 16” so that’s dumb if thy told you that. 16” and 17” are both good choices. I’ve been rocking 17” mainly at first due to what was available but also ended up swapping to T4R breaks than Willwood that required 17” wheels if you ever feel the need to swap.

IMO; that wheel configuration (0 offset; 4.75” backspacing) is perfect.

 

I'm wondering if the ray 10 17 inch 8.5 4.3 backspace -10 offset is OK. If 0 is perfect is 4.3 almost perfect.
I read in another thread where a guy was having tons of drama with the 17 9 3.5 backspace and 38 offset.

I have a 1” lift all around with 275/70/17 with Ray10’s that have -10mm offset. No rubbing issues whatsoever and I’ve taken it off-road quite a bit. At 1” you will be fine.

OP, no disrespect but from your post I’m assuming you’re fairly new to this. Just keep in mind with Kings, you will have to rebuild them at some point. I’ve read it’s in between 50k-60k, I could be wrong but that seems to be the general census around here. Depending on you’re driving if you go off pavement and utilize your shocks for what they’re intended, that’ll significantly wear them down sooner and warrant a rebuild sooner. So just keep in mind that you will have to pull your suspension ever so often and either do it yourself or pay a shop to do it for you. I may suggest going with something more practical, such as a Toytec Boss kit or Bilstein 5100’s paired with OME 887 up front and a add a leaf in the rear. I’m no expert but I’m passing on what I’ve picked up from here.

 

Might I suggest a slightly different route? I’m of a similar frame of mind.

I went with Bilstein 8112s coil overs in the front and 5160s with a 3 pack AAL in the rear. From the factory, the Bilstens offer a minimum lift of 1”-2” and are rebuildable like Kings. The ride is simply amazing. Great on the street, on washboard roads, and off road. Here’s a link...

As to wheels 16” wheel will give you a little more tire and a softer ride on and off road. Its the reason the Pro and the OR have 16” wheels while the sport has 17” wheels. Run your tires around 32 psi. Tire shops and the dealer will try and inflate them to 38 psi for mpg, but running them at 32 will give you a softer ride. As to off set and back spacing, I’m of the opinion that the outside of the tires should come right to the edge of the top of the fender. Since off set and backspacing do not directly correspond, find some rim setups on this site you like from others and copy them.

I have read in this forum where there have been instances where the calipers hit the balancing weights "on some 16 rims" so to play it safe go with 17.

 

There is no such tire size available as 265/75 r17, only 265/70 r17 which is 31.5”

 

As I’m sure you’re aware, in the ole’ days we put wheel weights on the edge of the rim. Today, they use stick-on weights. I saw the same thread you did where the guy went to rotate his tires and the weights were rubbing ever so slightly against the caliper shroud. The solution was to trim the shroud ever so slightly. The other option would have been to simply move the weights more to the outside of the rim. For whatever reason, the tech who put those weights on really put them deep inside the rim. That may have been due to the amount of weight he needed to add.

 

Thank you very much, I'm very appreciative for this info. Yes, I'm new, I can go practical if I can get the cushy ride. Like I said I want to be able to hit speed bumps and dive-bomb into dips and not feel them like I do now. As I said before I could notice the difference between the pro and off road shocks and want at least the pro ride, but while I'm at it and being it will be my last hurrah before I get to old for this. I'm very pleased to know I can run the 275/70/17 with a 1inch lift.
Some rims I like don't have the ray 10 specs but are close. How close to those specs do I need to be?

Thank you very much this is a big help and will research your suggestions. Most of me wants 16 inch rims with more rubber then 17 and with a tad less rubber. With a 1 inch lift, but no more.
I'm listening to the posts but the guy who seemed to know what he was talking about scared me about getting 16 inch rims. But you have helped ease my angst.
