Not exactly true. Removing the overload (or both in my case) does change the ride quality immensely since the leafs can articulate past where the overload spring(s) once were. The overload act to “catch” the “top” leaf pack to keep it from over flexing.

If you don’t carry any substantial weight, when the top leaf pack interacts with the overload it’s like hitting a wall of steel and essentially prevents the springs from flexing any further.

In my case, I got about 1.5” of travel before contact with the overloads and it rode like crap.

    Torque specs matter

After removing my overload spring and making sure everything was torqued to spec, my squeaks were gone. After a few days of driving, I went to check/re-torque the u-bolt nuts to 50 Nm in case there was any settling. Two were a little shy of specs so I re-torqued them.

I then figured I’d “add a couple turns” on the other too just to be safe. I put my torque wrench away and went to pick my daughter up from work and SQUEAKS were back.

When I got home, I immediately set them back to 50 Nm and squeaks are GONE.

Much better load handling with the RTT (fat ass thang that it is).

Still trying to figure this crap out from the prior owner...

    you and me both!

We started removing parts (thank goodness the u-bolts cooperated in allowing us to remove them without buzzing them off with a cut off wheel) and the bump stop on the top of the leaf had a larger hole ground another inch forward of where you would expect it to be along the vertical line of the bottom bolt. Nope, it was off set just like the top bolt. It looked like a hack job - add a mini leaf that will never be used except for a 1/3" lift...

I installed the zip ties today, and for the first time since I put my OME suspension in, the ride is silent! Such an easy and inexpensive fix. Thank you, sir!

I just ran into this with my progressive AAL from Wheelers. The bottom 2 leaf's don't have any silencer pads and it is metal to metal contact. I took my leaf's apart and wire wheeled them to get the rust an dirt off between the leaf's and paainted the bare spots. On the AAL part I took my dremel and took out all the sharp edges that were making contact with the spring and painted the bare metal. I got it all back together and it is quiet for now and hopefully for good. I have to retorque the u bolts in a couple of days. I hope I solved the problem. Will keep you updated.

I pulled my el095r dakars out this spring after 1 winter season and re installed my factory pack with a block because I couldn't handle the creaking noise any more with the advice from my local spring shop I ditched the poly bushings where it seemed my noise was coming from and had the spring shop press in factory bushings I then disassembled them painted with POR 15 installed the dorman 31067 anti friction pads and add a leaf to make them the hd pack reinstalled them and sounds quite so far will see what happens after a winter salt cycle20190928_093220.jpg 20190928_093148.jpg

I just got new dakars. They have the yellow pads between each spring on the ends and a metal plate between each leaf in the middle. I also got the speedway liners. I was thinking of removing the metal plates and then installing the liners in between the yellow pads in between each leaf. This way the total height of the spring won't be affected. Or should I leave (haha punny) the metal plates in?

Anyone see a problem with this? Are the metal plates just spacers?

How did you put these on? Over the metal plates, in between the yellow pads?

    Update :
Still quiet on the Western Front. I guess before putting any new or progressive AAL leaf springs in is to take them apart and make sure that the plastic pads are in place and that all the sharp edges are smoothed down. Repaint the bare spots to help keep the rust down. Hope this helps.

Over metal plates and cut them before getting to the yellow pads.

Put mine on this weekend with the speedway liners. Haven't heard a single squeak yet in 3 days.
