    It's been a rough weekend...

I brought my truck into the dealership for the squeaky brake problem on Friday, and found out that one of my rear axle seals had blown. The result flood of grease/oil destroyed rear brakes that had only 22K miles on them! This happened fairly recently, because my truck just passed state inspection in September, and the squeaks just recently came back. My parents are in California until Wednesday, my usual mechanic wasn't able to get me in until Tuesday, and I'm kinda glad I didn't opt to park the Taco for the weekend and drive my dad's Yukon because I ended up hauling a dirtbike for a friend today. Basically, I ended up paying over $200 more than my mechanic would have charged because the dealer was able to get the Taco back to me by 5pm!

So, I've now got my Taco back. Everything was all fine, except that the truck still sometimes squeaks when the brakes are applied, until I realized today that the heater blower seems to be going...

I went to see Midway (Great movie!) with two friends tonight; The blower has been making this obnoxious clicking noise for weeks (it was replaced under warranty like 8 years ago for a similar problem). The heat was literally working normally when we arrived at the movie theater. When we got back in the truck to leave, the blower seemed louder, and the air coming out of the vents seemed weaker. My friend who rode with me agreed.

Right now, the heat is working great in the sense that it gets really hot and works a bit too well even with the cold temperatures we are experiencing here (You could pop a bag of Orville Redenbacher's in my truck with the heat all the way up!). However, I am afraid that the blower motor is going to fail completely and leave me without a heater or defroster for a day or two because I won't be able to get it to my mechanic or the dealer right away. I have a thread dedicated to the heater issue, and one TW member said I should just drown out the noise by cranking my stereo and ignore it until the blower motor completely fails.

And there's the fact that I found a condom (wrapped and thus unused, luckily) under the driver's seat in the 2019 Camry loaner I got while the truck was getting the rear brakes and axle seal replaced yesterday. If I have to take a loaner from the dealer again in the near future, I'll go out of my way to make sure I don't get car #44!

Those blower fans are made of cheap plastic and crack, luckily not too difficult to gain access and swap out.

I'll buy the part from the dealer (I was quoted $240 for an OEM blower), and have my mechanic install it. I don't feel comfortable taking on a blower motor install myself; The only HVAC system part I've replaced myself is the blend door actuator, and that ended up being not being the problem!

I would check Rockauto, they usually have reasonable prices, no way would I pay $240.

I was expecting it to be closer to $500 at the dealer. You're telling me I can get a Toyota OEM blower motor from RockAuto for less than $240?!?!

I don't know if that Fan will be stamped as a Toyota Part or not, I occasionally get Motorcraft and Delco parts on there.

Also, Thompson Toyota in Doylestown was better than my dad's mechanic at diagnosing the A/C system leak my truck had from June 2017 to September 2018!

The compressor and a few other HVAC part in the 2nd Gens are Delphi-Harrison, which is a GM subsidiary.

The A/C in my truck is more than adequate in my opinion, but I have driven a few vehicles that definitely had better A/C!

Best AC I have ever felt in any vehicle was in my old 2002 Mustang, even with the fan on lowest setting I had to start turning the temp control towards warm and I could wear a suit and be fine. My truck is about adequate while wearing shorts and a T-Shirt. That blower motor on Rockauto is about $40 for a few different brands.

Vehicles I remember having really good A/C...

    Mom's 2004 Honda Odyssey EX

    Dad's 1996 Nissan Pathfinder

    Dad's 2003 Honda S2000

    Dad's 2002 BMW 325Ci convertible

    My friend's 2006 Nissan Maxima

    Grandpa's 1993 Lincoln Continental

    Cousin's 1998 Audi Cabriolet

    Friend's 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Just about every 2001-2011 Ranger my uncle has ever owned

The 2005 Honda Element used as a liquor running vehicle and the manager's company car at the bar where I used to work

I have never ridden in a REAL Rolls-Royce (though I did sit in a 2016 BMW-built Ghost with the A/C on one time), but I've been told that Rolls-Royces from the late 1970s onward have quite possibly the best A/C in the world. They have what is called the "Split-Level" system, which is a true automatic climate control system with the ability to change the temperature from both the upper and lower levels. One book I have describes the A/C in the Rolls-Royce Camargue as having the cooling capacity of 30 domestic refrigerators. It is a terribly incorrect book otherwise (purchased by my parents for $12.98 on sale at Barnes and Noble, and the statement about the A/C system is the only correct one.

I believe 1994 was the first year for R134a in Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars. A lot of 1970s-1990s Rolls-Royce used Delphi-Harrison A/C compressors too!

I think many of the Manufacturers switched to 134 somewhere in that timeframe.

    They actually did...

A few cars got R134a in 1993 (Nissan across the board, Volvo across the board, select GM, Chrysler, and Jeep models)

The SN95 Mustang came out in 1994, pretty sure that is when they went to 134, that was also the first offering for ABS in the Mustang.
