Please excuse me if anything in this post should be obvious to me.

I have a 2006 Tacoma, and I want to lift it 3 inches. I will never go off roading with it, and I will never tow anything either. I'm going to leave the stock rims for now and get bigger tires. My truck has not had the rear leaf spring recall work done.

What are my options? I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible. 200-300 dollars preferably.

I know I could search around and read posts, but it's like reading another language to me. I don't understand any truck suspension specifics.

You say you'll never go off-road. The purpose of lifting is to increase the *clearance* and *traction* of the truck off road, at the *expense* of on-road performance.

I'm left thinking you want the lift for the look? You don't have to do a lift to customize your truck. There are lots of cool things you can do at stock ride height - including saving your money for some kick-ass rims that will set-apart your truck at stock ride height.

At your price range, you're looking at a spacer lift/AAL. Lots of folks on the boards will run that down, but I won't.

However, I will point out that ANY lift option opens the door to a host of alignment and vibration issues, and the higher the lift, the more likely the problems.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm trying to give you food for thought - obviously you'll do what you want no matter what I say. But answer me this: if you're having trouble simply figuring out what the lift options are, how will you fare when/if you need to run down some of those lift-related gremlins like weird driveline vibrations, premature CV failure etc...?

Ok so I'm deciding between the Toytec 3" front spacer lift or the coils.

Would the coils be better? Whats the benefit of going with coils? Would spacers hurt the truck?

I wasn't suggesting one lift over the other . I thought the discussion of spacers in the other thread would give you some info .

most of the guys on that thread with spacer problems did stupid things in their trucks. the results were not all because of the spacer, but more because of the driver, where they were driving, the capabilities of our trucks, and those type things. the coils are more for off roading. they give you more off roading capability. you said yourself that you will never go offroading. if that's the case, there is no sense in wasting all that money on a much nicer suspension that you will never need. get the spacers and add a lead and you will be fine. your ride will be more stiff, but that's about it. unless you do something stupid, you will have no trouble.

Not in this case, because of the length of the coils and the length of the spacer.

If you add a coil that would give a 3" lift to a spacer designed to also give 3" lift, then yes, you'd be in lift hell. But in this case, it's a shorter coil (tho longer than stock, coupled with a short spacer)

As spacer lifts go, Revtek is well regarded - it mixes a preload spacer with a top plate spacer and a diff drop so that no single component is over-stretched.

I decided on the coil + spacer lift with AAL. Thanks for the advice everybody.
