I just traded in my 2014 FX4 for my first Tacoma. I’m a little shell shocked driving it cause of the size but I’m loving it. Great decision

    A few.
You finally got one! Congrats. I traded my Ram 1500 in on my 2019 Tacoma 8 months ago. Now when I sit inside of a full size truck, they feel too big to me.

I like the white ones, too! Remember you'll always kind of want whatever color you don't have...just enjoy the truck! I'm sure it looks great and white is a color that's easy to upkeep

Congrats man! Beautiful truck, good call on MT! You will love it. Would highly recommend the ADM.

    Good luck man!

Manual trans gets a hard key and the ability to start the truck in gear (first) in a sketchy situation. Think offroad on an incline and you cannot afford to roll back no matter what else happens. Push the button labeled "clutch start cancel," put her in first gear, turn the key and climb away while simultaneously starting your engine. Now you're in the clear. You could also roll start/ push start if your battery is DOA.

With the manual trans/hard key you do also forego having the touch entry door lock/unlock feature. Admittedly I do miss that feature, but having the manual trans was more important to me.

Manual trans Tacoma are also not equipped with MTS or crawl control, but you do get ATRAC and of course a locking rear diff. Without getting too far off in left field...from my understanding, MTS functions similarly to ATRAC, but with its selections it allows more or less wheelspin depending.

All in all, I was willing to "give up" some features to get 3 pedals and a stick. I'm not worried I'll get stuck without MTS or crawl control. I'm sure I'll be just fine... and I enjoy having the ability to choose whatever gear I want, whenever I want.

The truck has less features, but it has character. There's just something about it that makes you feel more connected to the driving experience. Maybe it's the stick shift. Maybe it's the old school hydraulic power steering in a world where everthing else has gone electric (and numb). Maybe it's all of the above.

The manual trans is a dying breed in this new age. Tacoma is one of the last new trucks you can get well equipped with 3 pedals. And they only manufacture about 3-5% of Tacomas with a stick. I'm happy to be able to own this fairly rare Taco.

At the end of the day, just make sure having the manual trans is most important to you. And if it's not, then go for the auto and get all the features. I personally don't mind having a new truck with an old school personality. It's a great mixture of comfort features and raw truck-ness.

Blackout emblems are on the list for me! And definitely a different shift knob than the small OEM one. Now that you mention it, the shift boot does look a little funny swallowing up the entire stick LOL

The Black Emblem Overlays and the Black Chrome Exhaust Tip really look nice on these trucks.

    Interesting, thanks for the info.

So, with an AT, if the truck is running, I exit, can I manually lock the door?

Don't know on AT. On mine (MT) if the truck is running with key in ignition and I exit the vehicle it will not allow you to lock it from the door panel, neither with lock button or manually flipping it to lock. It will immediately unlock itself.

There are only two ways to exit the truck and lock it while mine is running:

One would be to exit the vehicle, shut the door, and use a physical key (spare key) in the driver's door from the outside.

The other would be to exit the truck, roll down driver's window, shut the door, reach in and lock the truck, then hit the auto up button for the window.

In both these scenarios you'd need a physical key to UN-lock the truck again. The spare key remote entry feature will not operate while the truck is running with another key in the ignition.

For the AT (key fob) the scenarios might differ. I don't know.

That's exactly how I felt - that pyramid shape of a shift boot wasn't working for me.

I think a lot of us are waiting for those keys to drop. Going to have to beat off the SR5 guys with a stick over the I'm assuming limited supply.

Glad you went through with the MT after weighing to pros and cons on the other feed you started. I take it you opted not to get the sunroof since you had head clearance concerns?

Yes sir. No sunroof. However I did get the premium audio/nav/climate control/heated seats package... and maximum headroom. Lol. Also got the Tech pkg and LEDs which are awesome. I test drove two trucks at night to see if the LEDs were worth it and yes, they are! (Note- all the new MT trucks with Tech pkg also get LEDs rolled into that option bundle.)

EDIT- I think you can get the LEDs as a standalone option as well.
