2.7 Sluggishness

    To all others that own a 2.7, are yours sluggish at times? What have you done to fix it.

    I know i don't have a lot of power to work with but i feel as if it's not the full potential of the engine

    I've owned my truck since july 2016 154k. (210k present)

    Since i've owned it, i have regeared to 4.88 gears which made the sluggishness bearable.

    What could cause performance lose that can be looked over?

    Things ive replaced :

    Plugs & wires from LCE
    3.91 to 4.88 gears ECGS (32 inch tires) Over geared and still slow
    New Fuel filter.
    all other routine maintenance has been done at their times.

    Things I've found that may help:
    new MAF
    clogged CATS
    Valve Adjustment
    Injectors
    o2 sensors

    ANY OTHER INSIGHT FROM YOU GUYS AND GALS IS APPRECIATED

    IMO i honestly feel like our trucks would be so much faster with more gears in the AT. like say a 6 speed auto. so there would be shorter gears. im in overdrive by the time i hit 35-40 :rofl:

    How much did the 4.88’s cost you?
    I have a 2015 2.7 2TR-FE* with the 4spd auto... my main complaint is on the interstate it constantly drops to 3rd on inclines. I wondered if different gearing would help hold power band?

    i think it was around $800 after my core charge was refunded. I ordered them from East Coast Gear supply. Great people over there. As for dropping to third on inclines. Mine still does that. Puts my rpms at 2900 in overdrive going 75. i feel like it was worth it at times and others i dont.

    The 2.7 is a low power engine, there's not much more to say. You can go fi or you can buy a better truck. Or you just accept it.

    Run 285s on my 2.7.... stock gears too. Just gotta remember its a truck not a race car.... but i still am going to regear to 4.88s for offroad.

    Rancho Quick lift. Wheelers Off Road Progressive AAL with Rancho RS9000's, braided brake lines & clutch line. BFG 32x11.50 15 All Terrain Tires Deck Plate Mod. Flowmaster 60 series muffler and Marlin Crawler Short Throw Shifter.
    Check the throttle cable adjustment. Is there alot of slack at the throttle body?

    Can you go do a 0-60 pull? That would give us something concrete to work with. If it’s close to comparable trucks then it might be nothing. Otherwise we’ll know how bad it is.

    have adjusted it. used to have bad play in it. it still opened to full throttle though.

    0-30 4 ish seconds give or take
    0-60 at around 12 to 13. closer to 13
