powedercoating the same color as the truck is a good option however not a viable one, it is very hit or miss, and the color will not fade at the same speed, and the type of coating that i want will not at all be a match to the color of the truck, the bumper will be getting E-coated which is a sort of primer for powder coat, then i will be getting a powder coating of a textured black not as textured as bed liner much finer, i will show lots of pictures once its done.

thank you all for the props.

ok so today was hole day, the day i have really been worried about. It turned out to not be as bad as i expected, bad but not as bad as expected. photos

first i broke the guide bit in half on the first hole, it caught an edge and that was it, so a quick trip to lowes and we were back to work.

and here is one that is 1/2 drilled i just thought that this was a cool picture

up next was time for the drill to take a rest, i thought it would be best in the fridge because it was hot
    [IMG]

and after a while and a trip to the apple store where i was looking for a new computer it was on again.

next hole is where it really got bad the transmission in the drill went so it wont really go into gear, it will spin the blade but when any resistance is met it just stops spining. so on to the replacement and yes it is a 12 volt drill :) thought you would like that.
i know you wont believe this, i wouldn't but the drill actualy is really making great progress, it only takes about 2 batteries to do one hole and these batteries have a 10 year warrenty so i am not overly worried about damage.

one more down. sorry i know its hard to see, my camera/phone leaves something to be desired.

it was apatizing for the bumper, the girl friend has been out of town for a week for work... so there was plenty of room for the drill. i have to say i am super super impressed by that 12 volt drill. it really flys through the 1/8th inch plate. very impressive.

Thanks relentless you have really been a big help through all this.

I'll show some pics tonight but it's almost time to just do a full weld up and grind then off to powdercoat.

Sorry i haven't been updating as much as i would like to or getting as much progress done as i would like to.

but here we go, i was really starting to get nervous about my expensive 12 volt drill burning up so i went to harbor freight and made a serious 29$ investment into this, wow it almost broke my arm this thing is seriously powerful and after 2, 4 inch holes the drill was hardly hot amazing. SHOULD have bought this from day 1
    [IMG]

here she is with only the 3 lower holes remaining to be drilled.

and here she is with the 3 lower holes drilled, and about ready to come off. just got to build the supports so the winch can't snatch the bumper off.

they are only untill i remove the bumper then they will be fully welded on the front, then they will be cut off and ground untill they look like they were made into it. Its going to take hours to grind this untill its smooth enough to paint.

    Good job!

The best part is when people ask "hey where did you get that bumper?" then you can say you made it yourself :D

Amazing job, I would only change 3 things:

    1) I would angle the front of the bumper to the front (nothing wrong with your vertical setup, I just like it with some forward angle)
    2) Thicker winch plate I would go with 1/4" just to be sure.
    3) Thicker shackle mounts, I would get some 3/4"x 4" flat stock cut and punched from the steel yard according to a template I would supply.

Other than this, I think you did a great job building this bumper, I still need to finish my sliders, have been sitting in a corner for over a yr now.... maybe some day I'll get to finish them and start with the bumper.
