Yep, they always play the victim.
Instead of manning up and admitting they have a problem.

When we were living in Fairfax County, Virginia, I attend 9th and 10th grade at Centrevile High School. All you had to do was stand out in the parking lot to see how spoiled the kids were. On any given day, you could see a good amount of Benzes, BMWs, late model SUVs, and customized 4x4 pickup trucks. Even the middle-class students got late model Nissan and Toyota sedans. This was in a 2003-2005, and one student drove a brown 1981 Toyota Corolla. The car was immaculate, and aside from a powerful aftermarket stereo system with a CD player, was totally stock. I also remember seeing a 1977-1979 Trans Am in the student lot.

If you looked over at the faculty/staff lot, you saw row upon row of Corollas and Civics, with the occasional Lexus or BMW mixed in. The students generally had nicer vehicles than the teachers! I can actually remember what most of my teachers at CVHS drove too (Again, this was 2003-2005 so most of these cars were 8 years old or newer at the time)!

    • 9th Grade English Teacher - 2002 or 2003 Mitsubishi Montero (so hers was fairly new)
    • 10th Grade English Teacher - 1996 Toyota Corolla
    • 9th Grade History Teacher - 1992 Toyota pickup 4x4 (Which he bought brand new, and surprisingly for being in Northern Virginia had no A/C)
    • 10th Grade History Teacher - 2003 or 2004 VW Passat (Another one of the nicer ones)
    • 10th Grade Science Teacher - 1998 Ford Taurus
    • Other 10th Grade Science Teacher - 1999 Ford Explorer
    • Gym Teacher for both grades - 2002 Chevy Tahoe LT
    • Study hall teacher - 2004 or 2005 Ford Explorer that he promptly installed an Alpine stereo system in
    • Math teacher (forget which grade) - 1997 Jeep Cherokee Limited
    • Assistant Principal (1980s Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight that was very poorly repainted in what he thought was dark blue, but ended up being purple and looking like a low-budget pimpmobile)
    • Art teacher - 2001 Toyota Tundra SR5 V8 4x4

As fun as that sounds, Doylestown has strict ordinances about discharging firearms in public...

A baseball bat is not illegal!

I do not presently own a gun, but for the record I am very much in favor of the 2nd Amendment. I want to buy a shotgun for home defense (and for fun), and I don't really want to get a CCW permit and carry a handgun in my truck...

However, I have never been arrested and do not have a criminal record. Pennsylvania is one of the easiest states in which to get a carry license. A few of my friends have them and carry guns in their vehicles. The prospect of carrying a gun on my person or in my truck absolutely terrifies me, but with things the way they are these days I'm beginning to wonder if I'll have much of a choice in the future.

Best advice as a gun writer I can give is. Take a class at a local range, training is key.
Personally I'd keep my eyes open and if you see that bum leaving a bar turn his ass in.

He had a Florida license and his car was registered in Florida...

Maybe Florida’s “stand your ground” law will take care of the problem!

One of Ginger's best friends is Deirdre Hortense "Dodie" Bishop (yes, that's her full name, which is probably why she goes by Dodie), and her younger brother Robert Joseph "Hoodsey" Bishop is best friend to Ginger's younger brother. Their parents are Dave and Joanne Bishop, and the Bishop family vehicle is this conversion van that resembles a roughly 1987-1991 Ford E150 (These vans had the same basic style from their debut 1975 the final year of production in 1991, but 1987 was the first year for fuel injection so we'll go from there and assume it's a 1990-1991 model)...

As seen in Lunatic Lake (Season 2, Episode 9; Original airdate April 14th, 2002; By this time the van would have been at least 11 years old)

As seen in Heat Lightning (Season 3, Episode 9; Original Airdate July 4th, 2004; By this time the van would have been 13 years old, though if it's anything like Rugrats the timeline probably stayed within a 2-year range; Let's assume this episode takes place in 2002 or 2003). If you look closely, you'll see that the animators stayed faithful to the original license plate number from Lunatic Lake, though this iteration of the license plate looks more like a Connecticut plate...

A second vehicle is never seen, though Dave and Joanne probably both have their own vehicles; Even though it can be assumed the van is about 1989-1991, the exterior paint and interior upholstery make the van seem much older. The van has crank windows, and seems to have distinctly 1980s velour interiors. I'm also digging those porthole rear windows! I 100% guarantee that a late eighties or early nineties conversion van will have air-conditioning. However, in Heat Lightning, the area is going through a heat wave. Joanne tells the girls to hurry up because they'll miss the bus to camp and she doesn't feel like driving them all the way up there "in this heat". A heat wave in my opinion would not be a reason not to drive a long distance, unless the A/C in the vehicle I am driving does not work. The van would have been at least a decade old if the timeline is to be adhered to, so the A/C system had probably given out due to old age.

I remember going with my Dad to the Ford Dealer in 1975 to pick up the Van he ordered, it was copper colored and had a straight 6 with 3 on the tree.

Ginger's other best friend is Macie Lightfoot; Macie's mom can be seen picking her up from school in this SUV in one episode...

The SUV looks virtually identical to a 1987-1995 Range Rover, but it is a 2-door and I do not believe the 2-door version was ever sold stateside...

One person on IMCDb said the Lightfoot family Range Rover resembled THIS TOY, and I agree with them!

Doesn't the Bishop family's van from As Told By Ginger look like a late eighties Econoline?

This is Ginger's dad's pickup truck, as seen in An "Even Steven" Holiday Special (Season 1, Episode 16; Originally aired December 10th, 2001). I originally said it looked like a 1970s-1980s Chevy or Ford, but it had been so long since I saw the episode that I forgot what the truck looked like; The truck more closely resembles a 1947-1953 Chevrolet pickup, with a mix of other 1950s design elements thrown in. The truck is sporting a very 1980s cap on the back...

Jonas Foutley is portrayed a good person, but also as irresponsible and something of a deadbeat dad who walked out on his family when Carl was little. Unlike Lois's 1970s Beetle, Jonas's truck suits the character perfectly in my opinion!

You can also see the 1980s American Racing type wheels in one of those pictures; I'm betting that a conversion van owned by family of four in a middle-class Connecticut neighborhood has a bare minimum of a 302 V8, more than likely with the C6 automatic and possibly with a posi rear.

I'll bet your dad's van did not have A/C!

That would be correct, it did not have AC, he did however order it like a window van though cause almost all of them popped open plus it had a sliding door on the side.

Courtney Gripling and her younger brother Blake are the lucky children of wealthy stockbroker Prescott Gripling and his wife Claire. The family vehicle is a Rolls-Royce. I can definitely Rolls-Royce design cues in this car, and it most closely resembles a Silver Shadow, but it is the most poorly drawn examples I've ever seen. Blake refers to it as "The Rolls" in a few episodes. Production of the Shadow ended in 1980. However, onsidering that a guy I know is still driving a 1982 Corniche in 2019, I do not have a hard time believing that a wealthy family would still have been driving one of these in the early 2000s. These shots were all taken by me, and they are from the episode Blizzard Conditions (Season 1, Episode 14; Originally aired February 25th, 2001)

As stated above, this is a very poor drawing, but the design most closely resembles a Silver Shadow. If the poor drawing is to be ignored, what also makes it incorrect is that hideous gold radiator shell and those awful gold trim strips. It was possible to get a gold "Flying Lady" hood ornament from the factory, however.

The car is almost always driven by the family's loyal butler, Winston. Mrs. Gripling drives it twice in the season two episode Trouble in Gal Pal Land, with Winston ironically sitting in the backseat. Here we see Winston at the wheel with young Blake in the backseat (Courtney is seated to Blake's right)...

I'd have to have A/C! However, while reliable, I can't imagine it be very safe to merge onto the highway in a 6-cylinder Ford van with the A/C going full throttle! My aunt's 2007 Subaru Impreza struggled to accelerate with the A/C on while merging!
