2017 TRD OR V6 with Tow Package.

    Trailer:

    2020 Springdale 189
    • Hitch Weight: 455 lbs
    • Dry Weight: 4228 lbs
    • Length: 23' 7"
    • Cargo Weight: 1727 lbs
I plan on getting an Equalizer WDH, and a Tekonsha 90160 brake controller. I'm in CA so I don't expect large hills/mountains. I get the ECT/S4 restrictions, and here in CA we have a 55 mph speed restriction for trailers anyways.

I'm new to the travel trailer scene so thoughts/opinions are most certainly needed!

Is the cargo weight of 1727 total allowable weight of tanks and cargo ? Or just cargo and then add wet tanks?

Yes, though it might not be fun. You’re looking at close 5000lbs once loaded with a normal amount of stuff and a whole lot of wind resistance. You won’t be going fast or very far between gas stations.

ooof that's heavy! As long as you don't go west on the 91 and just go to the Tyler mall and back I think you should be fine (I kid).

Also what is the tongue weight with the cargo weight? Keep in mind weight of gear and passengers in the Tacoma as well.

It won't be fun. But with the WDH, brake controller, and understanding the limitations of your Tacoma and that it will be screaming and mpg will suffer you'll be alright. Just watch the Santa Ana winds, your expectations, and safe.

I'd rent a similar trailer first and see how it does.

I wouldn't buy a trailer that I could possibly regret.

I think your on the right track with WDH and brake controller. Steady pace and good driving you'll be OK. Just OK though IMO. If your through consistent grades frequently you might get a bit uncomfortable with being able to maintain decent speed and keep up safely with traffic.
I was quite comfortable with no WDH or brake controller with 4000 lbs. Manual transmission for me though. Screenshot_20191111-230220_Gallery.jpg

I tow an Airstream Sport 22FB at a dry weight of 3,634 lbs and hitch at 422 lbs. I've towed this from the Bay Area across Nevada, Salt Lake Utah, Yellowstone National Park, Arco Idaho and back. I've also towed on highway 1. I added a leaf and it definitely helped. I plan on adding a leaf pack once the current ones gives up. I also have an equalizer WD and brake controller. The only challenges I've faced were high winds. Not the best tow vehicle but it works. 11—13 MPG.

Any update on the Taco tows it? We are looking at a similar sized RV. I haven't even attempted it but when I had my Chevy 2500HD Diesel I had a 23footer at 4500lbs Dry. I think it will be too much for the Taco.

Taco tows the 195 RBW just fine. This trailer is lighter than the one I originally wanted, and a bit smaller. Fully loaded is 3750 lbs. Dry weight is 2900 or so. I'm using a WDH and Tekonsha P3 brake controller. Taking her out next weekend to the desert, will post pix! :)

Is the link to my trailer. Good luck!

ive hauled more on ' flat to level ' terrain when i had my V6 4door long bed.............. No issues
U have to keep an eye on ALL temps
    Radiator / Tran etc
no less ambiant temps are significant

most haul campers occasionally reasonable distances
not likely U will be in top gear or overdrive

If you haven't already purchased the WDH, give the BLUE OX SWAY PRO serious consideration. The sway control is built into the hitch design,,,no need for a separate friction sway bar (I don't recommend this).

Jayco pulls just fine! Got in a little desert boondocking before COVID got serious.

@RVguy I have an E2 WDH and a Tekonsha P3 brake controller. So far so good!

Add a leaf and dont underestimate sumo springs. They do wonders for towing and bed weight. Helps alot

if U arent goin for a lift

firestone air bags work Great !!
work with most any situation if Ur Taco aint lifted

    full bed
    passengers
    etc

simply air up / level out the bags
does NOT make the ride harsh !!!!

when done level out to normal

You have the Baja though, those come with 15" wheels and flipped axles. Nice rig! What's your water tank capacity?
