How many miles since clutch ADM?

Yeah, what I said was confusing. F150 bought new in Lynnwood....but Tacoma bought new in Vancouver. That's where I said goodbye to the Ford. I'll miss it, but I like the Taco.

What did you do with the Terminator?

 

Got rid of my accumulator at around 700 miles, at 14k now. Honestly I'd never heard of an accumulator before having this truck. At first I thought it was a quirky transmission I just needed to get a feel for. It never got better or at least less annoying. Constantly had to pay attention to the clutch. I started searching the forum about why the clutch feel was total shit and ran across the ADM. Even 700 miles was too much with that thing. I know engineers have reasons for their decisions, but they're not necessarily good ones or worth the trade offs...

First day I had the Tacoma I backed it into my drive way and killed it. I can't remember the last time I stalled out a vehicle, probably been well over 10 years.

Don't think twice about the mod, just do it. The sooner the better. If you don't like it, you can reverse it (you won't). Hell, I'll send you my accumulator if you do the dremel mod and don't like it (you'll like it).

 

Sold back in 2012. Miss that one.

 

I've noticed before the trans warms up it's very notchy upshifting into 2nd and 3rd. Seems to only be for the first 5-10 min of driving then after it warms up it's butter. Truck has less than 500 miles so I expect the tolerances are still really tight. Anyone notice this getting better over time or after the ADM? If it's just a characteristic of the truck that's ok, just wondering.

 

The ADM has nothing to do with that. Just the syncros breaking in. There are three on 1st and 2nd, and two on the others. If it still feels notchy after 5k or so, or difficult to get into 1st at a stop, then swap to Redline MT-90.

Mine just rolled over 32,000 kms. The clunky shifts have smoothed out a bit. I still feel them when cold. Definitely not as bad as when I first purchased.

 

Mine took about 1,000mi for the syncros to bed in. A long drive is good for the rear diff also. Get it hot, lapped, and settled in.

 

Rode around for about 45 mins yesterday just taking her through the gears on some stop and go backroads. My drive to work in the morning is mostly highway, about 20 mins...but on the way home I'm gonna take the back way for a while now that road construction is finished! Figured that'll help break her in and it's a nice change of scenery.

 

this is the best indicator of when you should change your trans fluid. mine is getting like this again - little over 55,000 miles since I changed it.

 

You ain't doing that for the truck's own good! You're just liking the drive, right? Rowing is just fun.

For the diff, you would want a nice long highway drive or a good run up a mountain pass. It took me a while to do that, but it was the last time that I got a whiff of that new car smell after shutting down.

 

Great point. With about 21k on the current stuff, the shifting is slick.

I did the adm recently by removing it and using a dremel to grind out a valley in the accumulator. It wasn't a drastic change, but enough to have a better feeling on the clutch. Just a little heads up to make the job easier- clamp the reservior hose before taking the accumulator apart. Cap the line to the accumulator to hold fluid in the lines and master. After getting together gravity bleed it and all good. I didn't even have to manually bleed the clutch.

Just rolled 11,000 miles. Trans is notchy, but getting better. For what it's worth.. And call me crazy.. But after every offroad trip rolling around in 4low for hours the truck feels better. Still breaking in I guess! My only gripe is notchy/grindy shifts when moving gears over bumps or rough terrain. Nature of the beast I suppose.
