Does anyone know how much to lower the rear to make it level? I want a block kit to lower the back end down but not sure if I need 2 or 3 inches? I heard a lowering shackle kit would be better than blocks but can’t find one that will fit only for 6 lug? Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

Thanks man, none actually, It is just my daily driver. I just really enjoy customizing it and making it look nice IMO. I inherited it from the wifey way back when. She is the original owner and I kinda took it over when we purchased a highlander together. Saving up to purchase a 2020 TRD Sport or TRD Pro.

No worries, was just wondering how much better it was with stock versus actually having a lift lol. Using a taco is using a taco in my eyes, mine is ~70-80% street driven as well anyways.

Ill add to this these thread, here is my 03 Tacoma. I am running 31" tires, Fabtech ultimate lift, spindles, bilstien front shocks, and i just added icon rear leaf expansion pack. I bought it for my 2019 tacoma but it actually fit my 03 mini 5 lug. the fabtech add a leaf was really hard on the bumps so i removed it. I would say the ride quality is pretty good, I have a rear aussie locker in the back that i may remove pretty soon and just add a elocker. the 6 lug locking prerunner diffs will work for these trucks as well. they are spring under i believe so you need the leaf brackets i would pretty do that"rather then the aussie or lunch box lockers. they are annoying when turning, click click dsfsdjfdsfs click.

Stock gears on 31s? How's the power on it? On 235s rn and have contemplated 31s on stock gears when I lift and cut fenders. Your truck is sick! Mad props to you, would LOVE to see more of it!

Oh so i regeared with an aussie locker and 4.10. The power is pretty nice for a 4 cylinder. If i had to do it agian i would just buy a prerunner 6 lug factory locking diff. I would have 6 lug in the back, and 5 in the front. They came in 4.10, and 4.30 also it would be cheaper and and the rear is a lot stronger then the mini.

I think with a manual trans a 4.30 would probably be the way to go, in 5th gear on the freeway my rpms arent that high

Got a lil busy over the weekend sorry for the late response but thanks for the information! Super happy to hear first hand experiences with the bigger gears on this truck, and a straight forward answer on what gears recommended. What's ur RPM's at 70 mph in 5th? RN with 235's I have to get up to 85 mph before I'm at 3k RPM's, but I like that because I have some freeways in Az with the speed limit at 75.

I'm hoping after I get V6 coils and a spacer lift to run 31's-32's with some fender cutting till I can afford glass. I would jump to 33's but not too sure how the stock LBJ's hold up with those size tires. 5 LUG FURY on here did a 5 lug to prerunner rear end conversion with his 2nd gen 5 lug but had issues with the driveline matching up? Can you verify the driveline and all that matches up with our first gen tacomas?? If so, def gonna grab a rear end from a junkyard and do 5 and 6 lug if needed bc that's the cheapest route to get a locking diff and gears all in one. Gonna be lurking ur page for a while to keep my motivation going. Keep up the work on this rig, great job!

I just did the prerunner rear end swap. 6 lug with 4.10, F67 Deavers and 9" shackles mounted in the frame. I cut everything off the frame and axle. Setup the leafs on the frame then set up the pinion angle on the axle. Prerunner axles are spring over axle so I cut off the spring perches and bought new ones to do spring under.

I had 31" with the stock 5 lug gearing and it was a dog. Freeway hills or any grade would bog down n I'd be doing 50 in 2nd gear. I almost never got to 5th gear. My foot was always floored trying to get the rpms up and struggled to reach 70mph. The 6 lug with 4.10 and I put 32" tires on it, and my little truck got its pep back. I can easily hit 70+mph n 5th gear is useful again. Accelerates way better/faster.

Hm so we can plug and play it pretty much then? reason I'm really leaning that route is to do regear and locker at the same time so I don't have to go back at it again unless it's necessary lol. I'm glad u advised against 31s on stock gearing bc I heard it wasn't THAT bad, but the way u say it makes it sound god awful. 4.10's seem like the way to go for me as of now, thank you for your help again

I think installing the prerunner elocker will be cheaper, and less work. if you regear you need to remove the center diff, axles, brake lines. with prerunner, just remove leaf spring bracket, center brake line, and driveshaft coupler. I paid about $850 to regear with a locker that annoys me now, I can get a complete elocker for about $600 that can be activated only when needed.
