I think if you could get the coach's poll to be less biased, you'd could potentially start there.

I think most coaches rate their teams correctly, but they rank other teams lower than they should due to said bias.

But, remove the bias from the coach's poll (which would never happen) and you will get a highly educated/experienced place to start ranking teams.

Well, that's because LSU is much better than previously thought.

But there is no way to know that LSU was going to play this well in August. There was no way to know that Texas was going to still suck. They were "Back", remember?

They have to start somewhere. Alabama's ranking this year probably had more to do with the fact that they were in the title game, even though they got truly dicked down by that tiger.

Depends on what analyst you ask some compare wins and some compare losses I wish they would fucking figure it out and do one or the other make it transparent

I also didn’t start this discussion to find a way to leave Alabama out lol.

just find it weird that this year Ohio state is awarded for wins, Clemson is punished for wins, Alabama possibly awarded for a loss, Oregon punished for a loss. It’s chaos!! It’s college football!

Need to do both. Does a win over a top 20 team count more than a loss to the number 2? I think it should.

I just think they tend to ask 1 question

"what has this team done to justify dropping them?"

when they need to also ask the 2nd question

"what has this team done to justify staying here?"

The other question is... let's swap Team X from not the SEC with Alabama. If team X was undefeated with the same schedule as Bama and lost to LSU as Alabama did, would there even be a discussion? I think Team X would be out of the top 10 and no one would blink. Bama is there because Bama is Bama... They have been at the top so long and dominant for so long that their name carries them farther than it should now. Is there bias from ESPN to keep them in the conversation? I think so. But looking at the situation with a team substituted in for Bama, the answer is a bit clearer to me.

Clemson is a good placeholder for team X. Already been punished for barely winning, but winning. Had they lost to LSU...out of the conversation they go!

Every year is a new situation to discuss and reason for bitching. This year is just combining multiple head scratchers into one season. Clempson dropping, Bama moving/staying up(potentially), OSU outta nowhere to #1 (although deserving of a top 4 I think).

I mean let's go crazy crazy... hear me out... Nebraska #1 in tonights poll... Followed by Tennessee, LSU, Clempson.

 Just to hear a nationwide explosion of heads in unison

check out this article, older before the 1st playoff rankings, but interesting to see, using ESPNs playoff predictor tool.

    https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-games-storylines-arguments-dominate-november

this is from the article, teams in bold won out from that point...teams not in bold have their loss explained in the parentheses:

    1. 13-0 Alabama: 99.9%
    2. 13-0 Ohio State: 99.8%
    3. 13-0 LSU: 99.6%
    4. 13-0 Penn State: 99.6%
    5. 13-0 Clemson: 99.3%

    6. 12-1 Alabama (SEC champ with a loss to Auburn): 97.0%
    7. 12-1 LSU (SEC champ with loss to Texas A&M): 96.4%
    8. 12-1 Penn State (Big Ten champ with regular-season loss to Minnesota): 94.9%
    9. 12-1 Ohio State (Big Ten champ with loss to Michigan): 91.7%
    10. 12-1 Georgia: 88.6%
    11. 12-1 Alabama (loss in SEC championship game): 83.7%
    12. 12-1 LSU (loss in SEC championship game): 82.1%
    13. 12-1 Penn State (loss in Big Ten championship game): 81.2%
    14. 12-1 Ohio State (loss in Big Ten championship game): 79.1%
    15. 12-1 Florida: 78.6%
    16. 13-0 Minnesota: 78.4%
    17. 11-2 Auburn (wins SEC): 73.7%

    18. 11-1 LSU (loses to Alabama, doesn't reach SEC title game): 73.0%
    19. 11-1 Alabama (loses to LSU, doesn't reach SEC title game): 65.3%
    20. 11-1 Penn State (loses to Ohio State, doesn't reach Big Ten title game): 59.2%
    21. 13-0 Baylor: 54.7%
    22. 11-1 Ohio State (loses to Penn State, doesn't reach Big Ten title game): 51.8%
    23. 12-1 Oregon: 42.7%
    24. 12-1 Oklahoma: 29.5%

    25. 11-2 Florida (loses to Florida State but wins SEC): 29.2%
    26. 12-1 Clemson (ACC champ with a loss to South Carolina): 27.3%
    27. 11-2 Georgia (loses to Auburn but wins SEC): 23.3%
    28. 12-1 Minnesota (Big Ten champ with regular-season loss to Penn State): 21.5%
    29. 12-1 Utah: 18.2%
    30. 12-1 Clemson (loses in ACC title game): 13.8%
    31. 11-2 Wisconsin: 9.6%
    32. 12-1 Baylor (Big 12 champ with regular season loss to Oklahoma): 5.4%
    33. 11-2 Iowa: 5.4%

so I'll remove the numbers that aren't possible anymore because we know the situation turned out differently, and the team that won out above them would have ruled out the possible situation.

    2. 13-0 Ohio State: 99.8%
    3. 13-0 LSU: 99.6%
    5. 13-0 Clemson: 99.3%

    19. 11-1 Alabama (loses to LSU, doesn't reach SEC title game): 65.3%
    21. 13-0 Baylor: 54.7%
    23. 12-1 Oregon: 42.7%

so the only team that didn't have to win out according to the playoff predictor...dun dun dun....Alabama.

    BUTTTTTT CHECK THIS SCENARIO OUT

    2. 13-0 Ohio State: 99.8%
    5. 13-0 Clemson: 99.3%
    10. 12-1 Georgia: 88.6%

    12. 12-1 LSU (loss in SEC championship game): 82.1%

if Georgia wins out, and LSU loses to them in the SEC title game...they could seemingly keep Bama out of the playoff!

Does LSU tank the SECCG to do that?!

I hate to say it, but Bama gave LSU their best test. At anytime it could have gone either way. They had mistakes and we did too. It's football not math. Bama should be in the top 5 but 4 is pushing it. But I am bias. The fact that Saban truly quit LSU before a bowl game, what a dick move. The fact that when Saban did come back to NCAA, with his tail between his legs, he went to our biggest rival, unforgivable. The fact the Bama beat us the last 8 times we met has built a barrier of anger I cannot let go away. But he has made a dominant team for years. I think Bama can be a force to be reckoned with if they are in the playoff. We will never truly get the playoffs we want until it goes to an 8 game set.

LSU smacked that ass, no if, ands, or bama whooped butts about it!

you see the end of my post above?

Say Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia win out. LSU only loses to Georgia in the SEC title game...

    who's your top 4?

LSU fans should be absolutely elated and over the moon.

I can understand the Saban hatred.

But we all know, the Alabama/LSU game is always a concern for both sides.
