This is the “bike” I rode to the gulf through the Eastern Mtns mostly in dirt last Spring. 4700 miles

Hey, no need to put “bike” in quotation marks. I have a DR650 to go along with my Santa Cruz Tallboy. The Tallboy makes my DR feel oh-so-fast and the DR make my Tallboy feel oh-so-light.

There was a guy that rolled up to the trailhead last weekend with a "stinger" off the back of his dual sport that was a bike rack.

I considered that for a second so I could get to the trail on HOV/ez pass lanes for free...but then I realized I would have to drive the motorcycle in rush hour near DC, might not be worth it haha

F...That. HOV is a little better (or at least it was when I lived there) but every time I go back to see my parents, it seems like it gets a little worse.

Hah, as good as a BMW GS is, I wouldn’t call that a dual-sport. I see this kind of setup occasionally, but even with a light bike on the back, the CG is moved up and back a lot, not to mention crosswind effects. A Prius would get better mpg for a lot less money. But not as cool.

Yeah, thats def a scary sail in a crosswind. Prob wouldn't make a great steed to go Deadhorse to Patagonia on that specific bike either, but its still a dual-sport class.

There isn’t much surface area on a bike. I think the rider would block most of it. Side winds would effect the rider waaaay more than a bike

I see your point, but ever been on a jump line on a windy day? Bikes have way more wind drift than people give them credit for. Usually its cuz that admittedly smaller force is exerted farther from the CG.

I have TRP quadiems on one of my bikes, they are great. No experience with dhr brakes but it seems like TRP is really putting out great stuff

I’ll bet dollars to donuts that’s my buddy Rich. Not the pic, but the guy you saw. Where were you?
Exactly. I’ve landed a few feet farther over on some of the bigger jumps. Scares the shit out of you on those 25+ footers. Especially if you’re trying to whip.
Thanks! I’m on the fence between the quadiems and Hopes. I have Hopes and love em...

Not to get picky, but a GS is in fact a great steed to go Deadhorse to Patagonia, which is mostly roads (paved or not). But in modern industry-speak, it’s an “adventure bike” not a “dual sport”.

I’ve had 3. I did a “fly and ride” from Pittsburgh to San Diego. Found on the www.advrider.com flea market

‘‘Tis the season for frozen fat or slogging gravel

I’ve been running 42mm WTB Rosolute Tires on a Reynolds’s Steel bike. It’s the most comfortable thing ever!
