Hey everyone! I'm still pretty new to the whole truck game (drove a G37S for the past 4 years) so I'm not too familiar with truck suspensions. I have a 2019 TRD Off Road 6MT, and am looking to upgrade my shocks. I'm pretty set on the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup, and looking to do a bare minimum (1" max) lift. Do I need to upgrade the leaf springs as well? Or can I just stick with the stock setup?

    Thank you for your help.

Stock springs are fine, 1” upfront will roughly level you out.

What's the point of upgrading the leafs?

    For a rear lift.
Say you wanted to lift the front 2” with the 6112’s. Then you’d want to upgrade the leaf pack or install an “add a leaf” in the rear to lift it 1.5-2.5”.

Or if you were planning on adding permanent weight to the rear, like a canopy or a rack/tent setup then you’d want to upgrade the leaf pack to accommodate for that weight.

    - Front 6112 are height adjustable.
    - Rear 5160 shock does not add height.
    - Maybe lift the front up 1" like you plan, and see how you like the stance.

I have 6112/5100 and am very happy. 6112 are beast mode, worth the $$.

Careful on leveling out - it won't take much to put that back end a bit in a downward position. If I were you, go up to 1.5" front and 1" rear block. I did 2" front and 1.5" rear and it has a great look to it. The slightest bit of rake.

Highly recommend against rear lift blocks. Rides like crap I had them. AAL or new leaf pack is the correct recommendation.

Disagree - I have tapered wheeler's 1.5" blocks and there is zero different from stock. A single AAL theoretically would ride worse.

There's a term in my business called 'fit for purpose'. In other words, a full AAL pack is overkill for my needs of 99% highway and never (maybe) carrying more than a hundred pounds in the back from time to time. Now, some may say 6112's are overkill for said situation but the difference is that I feel the front setup in this truck is significantly more important than the rear. The 6112's are also a value proposition when compared to other 2.5" CO's.

Aren't the TRD Pros levelled out from the factory? I just want a stance similar to that really with upgraded shocks.

Yes. You can always find used pro shocks. Pretty common around here. If you get the 6112/5160 setup you don't need to add a leaf in the rear if you don't want any lift in the back or plan on carrying weight often.

Yeah realistically I just want it a smidge taller that's all. Looking for a simple yet solid setup. I had full coilovers valved for custom Swift springs, rear spring bucket delete (true type conversion), SPL billet front control arms, SPL rear toe and camber arms, all with rod ends and spherical bearings, Poly rear diff bushings and upgraded end links. Don't want to go thah route again lmao

It's a slippery slope. I came from a kleemann c55 myself. You'll find that truck suspension costs WAY more than car suspension if you want to go all out on long travel.

Drastically better than stock on back roads.

All depends on your shooting spots up in the mountains too. Where I go, any actual truck with 4wd will make it up stock. You'd probably be okay with the 6112/5160. I was going to go that route but I wound up with icons with about ~2+ inches up front and 1" in the back from a AAL. I have SPC upper control arms that got rid of my negative camber up front as well.

Oh the truck is extremely capable stock. I just want bigger shocks is all. I should've worded it better. I already use it to get wherever I need to go

6112/5160s, icons, fox, ads, OMEs...all set at the lowest setting or 1" lift will do ya well. For the money, most people here seem to like 6112/5160s and the trd pro fox shocks if you dont want to spend 2k+ for the rebuildable coilovers.

I've always been a Bilstein fan. Gonna throw on some 265/75 KO2 or General Grabbers as well - either on my TRD Pro wheels or if I get a set of SSR Auswuch or MUD TRAD wheels

Ground breaking really. Compared to stock. I did this exact lift to my long bed and holy cow. This is the way the truck should come from the factory period.
