Took my truck to the local mechanic for the front crankshaft seal it was leaking a little bit. I get a call back and my seal is gone the harmonic balancer is bad water pump is leaking and the pulley on the water pump is bad and all four belt tensioners are also bad I knew I had a tensioner going bad that's how I noticed the oil leak when I pop the hood to try to figure out which one was bad seen the oil figured I'd take it on into a shop and have it looked at by a professional. To have all this fixed and a new serpentine belt the quote was $1,184.39 . that's parts and labor.

    Is this a fair price?

For all you're getting done there...it's not outrageous. Curious as to why he would think the harmonic balancer is bad (unless the bad crank seal tore it all up, which would surprise me).

He said something about a rubber grommet on the back side that the oil ate up. And it's something built into it that you can't buy.

Got ya...must be a different design from what I've seen. If you think the mech is good, I'd just take it to him.

Ive used this person a lot and always felt good about his prices. Until I got this bill. I dropped the truck off last Fri. He called me with the price/problems that afternoon and truck was ready yesterday at noon. So service is good just felt like he might have been getting a little deep in my pocket. Thanks

Sounds like a fair price to me.
Ask for the old parts back that he doesn't have to core, like the WP.

    OME and worth every penny.
If you can't trust your mechanic to actually replace parts he said were needed it's time to find a new mechanic.

This sounds about right if a factory new balancer.

    Reserected from the dead.
Still way cheaper than a truck payment.

A water pump replacement is $800 alone from the dealer. The other stuff is right there along with it. You got a decent deal.
