I get ya man, new truck, fun things, but hate to see you waste your time and the inevitable disappointment.

I can understand your mission, but if you shall succeed, this is your reward.

At least they are trying. If you do find a way to update the software, please post. Mahalo!

The message from Servco and Toyota NA is this:
    Hi Larry,

I received the following information regarding any possibility for your vehicle to have access to the additional applications from Toyota Motors Sales North America in which is a Distributor for the Continental US and unfortunately this was their response, “Kim, I’ve received confirmation. As expected, this vehicle can’t be upgraded to the Entune app suite 3.0.” Thank you for your continued patience as we researched any other options available and apologize we were unable to find a resolution that would provide you the outcome you were hoping for.

We will be updating and closing out your case, however please let us now if there is any other questions you have or anything else we can assist you with.

Now, Carmax is on the hook and have offered to swap units from another identical but not Servco Tacoma. My question is, am I now going to have to use the VIN from that truck? I would think so.

I understand you are on a mission and it's the principle of the matter at this point, but think about the value of your time.

If you are successful, you will have access to...a bad gas app, slackerradio app, iheartradio app, a bad sports score app, and a stock market app. That's it. Fin.

Yes, you would have to use the VIN from the truck that the HU came from, then the new owner of that truck will have the same problem, on top of you falsely using that VIN as your own. Not only are you using the VIN to register the apps, but also creating an account to access all the service records etc for that other trucks VIN. Should the new owner of the other truck do the same as you did by contacting Toyota NA, they would remove your access to allow the rightful owner of the truck attached to that VIN access and you would be in the same boat. I agree with the previous poster that it may not be worth it, but its your truck and time so its up to you what you want to do at this point.

The fact that the call Entune 2.0 "Premium" is such a joke

Is it even Entune 3.0 in the Tacoma? Im not sure what it is actually. Either way, you are better off going aftermarket, with AA/Apple Carplay.
I haven't hit the apps button on mine in several months. It plays music and thats all I need. The nav is ok but not as good as Google maps.

OP, you should do a poll on here if anyone uses the App suite that Toyota offers to see if it is really worth your time continuing to pursue. You may just want to have Carmax give you some accessories for your truck that you were thinking of buying. You may be much happier with that.

I'm in the smallest minority here but here goes. I had XM for the 3 month free trial. Canceled it after that and Sirius hounded the crap out of me to sign up. No. No thank you. Heck no. I just got a letter that says Sirius owes me $12 for calling me when I'm on the "do not call" list. The navigation sucks so bad I run my Garmin full time now in the truck. The only thing I use on the head unit is the AM radio and the handsfree phone hookup, which my Garmin could do as well. Huge disappointment but certainly not as bad as the OP.

I think Toyota is confused...2017 came with Entune 2.0. I'm sure they have received lot of questions about upgrading to 3.0 that is available on the 2020, but that is a hardware issue. You need to check back with Toyota about Entune 2.0 apps.

I don't know if any apps are even left. No one uses them because they are trash, and Toyota removes them at their discretion.

You may have the access to an app list that is empty.

I haven't used it in a few months. I linked them to try it, was not impressed, and went back to FM radio.

Really the only thing I was after was the traffic app to plan my commute. I'm sure google and Waze are much better. I like the idea of accessories from the dealer but I doubt if Carmax has anything I'd want. Thank you guys for slapping me around and setting me straight. I AM the new guy, so it was expected. Maybe I'll get enough of a bonus that I can visit Crutchfield with intent.

Totally understand. I was disappointed when i found out I couldn't get the App suite on my wifes Lexus. I tried to contact Servco also but I got a similar response from them so I knew that it wasn’t available when I bought my Taco. Now with Apple Car Play, hopefully we can get the same stuff as the Continental US folks.
