Gen 1 2004 Tacoma UltraGauge MX Transmission Temperature

Yes at the time of purchase you can select what preload you want for the MX. This only applies to the M-gauges though, all the other standard gauges (if supported by your ECU's protocol) will the exception of rediness monitors & a couple other things that the MX does not have. You can choose Tacoma/Tundra to be preloaded but those M-gauges are not for 1st gen Tacomas so it really doesn't matter.

And yes you can reprogram M-gauges yourself should you move the UG to another vehicle & want to use M-gauges for that particular vehicle. That's basically what you would be doing to get the trans temp to work for the 1st gen Tacoma. M-gauges for 1st gen Tacomas are not offered by UG cause according to them M-gauges for ISO-9141 aren't supported.

Nope, manuals don't have temp sensors. Not nearly as vital to monitor temperature on manuals...they are less likely to overheat and are less sensitive to damage from getting hot

That's not to say you can't overheat one to the point of damage, but if you did that would be impressive

So say if one was to do a 5 speed swap. Could you replace a cap in the manual transmission with the stock sensor and use the stock wording harness and still have a transmission temp reading on the ultra gauge?

 

That's a good question...I have no rightly idea lol. That would probably be a question for the more seasoned guys on here. I wouldn't stress too much about monitoring the manual trans temp though...I've never heard or read about it being a Tacoma issue before even with the more built up and heavy wheeling rigs

 

It might not be needed but it’s good to have it. Other side of this is if I was to do a 5 speed swap, my cluster still would have the stock transmission temp gauge that wouldn’t be used. Would make me a lot happier if it was all functional. Not a deal breaker but would be cool.

 

Will this only work for 01-04 1st gens? Looking to buy an Ultragauge for my 2000 3.4

 

I don’t think pre-2001 report the trans temps over OBD II, but otherwise the UltraGauge will work for you.
