Anyone know if we will ever be able to use the remote connect app to start the Tacoma? Just saw a co worker start there 2018 Camry with the app, while I froze waiting for my 2018 Tacoma to warm up. Lol

Remote starters are cheap and easy to install.

Same thing as the OEM one, I am new to Tacoma.. so I am assuming this might be a new option for the 2020's?

Correct - only the 2020s can be optioned with the remote connect.

The 2020 I purchased was Remote Connect compatible BUT I was required to have the remote-start hardware installed for a total of $600. This would’ve given me the ability to start the truck using my original key fob as well as using the Remote Connect app to start my truck from anywhere. They also quickly mentioned at the very end that there is a yearly fee to use the Remote Connect feature (don’t recall how much that was). I decided not to go with this option.

If I could also add, if your truck is push to start, the vehicle will turn off once you open a door If the remote start option is used.

Yeah and I do not really like that it does, I am guessing it is so someone cannot get into the truck and drive off IF you happen to be close enough with the key? I cannot think of any other safety reason as all the other vehicles I have had with remote start do not do that.. factory and after market.

Yeah that one of the big things stopping me from getting remote start. Every third party product I’ve looked at does the same. And based on all the TW forums I’ve read, there is no way around this safety feature.

What’s the problem with it shutting off when you open the door?
If you don’t use a remote starter, you get in and press the start button.
If you do use a remote starter, you get in and press the start button, but the truck is already warmed up and the windshield is already defrosted. (Or it’s cooled if in the summer.)

Somebody is probably going to bring up extra wear & tear on the starter, but that’s BS. Starters last a VERY long time.

Thanks for the information all. I do have a push to start, that is odd about the door. Not sure it’s a deal breaker for me. Looks like I’ll be installing an aftermarket remote starter in the next few weeks before the snow starts to fly.

I use remote start. Shutting off when you open the door is an annoyance, but the warm truck Is soooo worth it.

    To me?
Starting my truck from Zimbabwe is a gimmick. The RS I had installed works great, and if I feel the need to compare weenie length, they included two extended remote start fobs that live in the safe.

I got the 12volt solutions kit and love it. Start it in the morning and it’s nice and toasty for my drive to work.
It was easy to install just took a few minutes.
I’ve always been the type of person to let my vehicles idle for bit before slamming it into gear and driving off so definitely a plus for me!

my remote start doesn’t turn off when i open the door. stays running. if you want to turn it off simply put your foot on the brake. or just put your key in turn it twice and tap the brake pedal to take over
First year is free after that it is $39 for a year.

I think the truck shutting off is only on the Push to start.

mine has a 15 minute shut off. It kills the truck if I don’t touch it after 15 minutes...
If that fails, make sure you Carbon monoxide alarms have new batteries!
