Okay, I found this board during a Google search, and figured I'd join.

I have a 2006 Tacoma access cab, and the other day I misjudged how much room I had backing up and cracked my driver's side tail light. I found a lot of replacement tail lights on the web, many with LEDs, and I was planning on just upgrading the whole set (including third brake light). I read the threads by "TheTacoManChach", and swapping out the lights seems pretty straightforward. I was wondering which tail lights you guys would recommend.

Also, I heard that the LED tail lights from the 2010 Tacoma will fit the 2006. Although OEM would be more expensive, I might go that route because I can get the parts locally and they would be of higher quality.

    Thoughts??? Anyone???

I have LEDS in my taillights. I can't remember the item #'s on em but you can get em at Autozone. Took 2 minutes to undo my tails and switch bulbs.

Are you talking about just bulbs or the whole tail light assembly? I need to replace the whole tail light, because it's cracked and a small piece is missing. It still works, but it looks ghetto.

I bought the new tails and then bought the led bulbs to go in them so everything is clear with no red or amber yellow whatsoever. So my whole tailight deal is new.

Yeah, I saw your tails in another thread. They look tyte on a white Tacoma. I have a silver Tacoma, so I was thinking JDM black or smoke tint tails. I want to do the third brake light to match, too.

At first I was so pissed that I busted my tail light, but now I have the perfect excuse to spend some $$$ on a project, heh heh...

You can get LED bulbs but you'd have to replace the housing anyway. The only other option is 09+ style (like mine, and I hate them), or some ebay specials. Of the ebay ones, about the only ones I'd consider is:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

But I hate the bulge, otherwise they'd be ok.

Also note (from your above post), JDM does not exist for a Tacoma as it was engineered and built in the USA (or built in Mexico lol).

If I were to go LED, which I plan to soon here, I would go one fo two ways. I may go and pick up a set of 09+ OEM LED taillights and smoke them. My other option I am considering is these, which are about $300 a pair, but I think they look pretty sweet. The option is yours. Or you could pick up a replacement set from an 05-08 and swap in LEDs, though the look is not the same.

I know...I mean "JDM style" or "Altezza" aftermarkets...they're black inside, like these, for example:

I reread yer post. You can check EBAY for replacement OEM and stuff. Alot of guys on here (including me) would probably have there OEM tails for sale after switching to other tails. I bought mine on ebay and my OEM tails are in a box all tucked away. I was gonna find em and NiteShade em for shits n giggles. Heres my new ones I got from EBAY:

Yeah, I saw those...love the "grid" look of the LEDs...those are definitely on my short list. I also might just get some OEMs at my local dealer and install those. That would be more $$$, but I would know I'm getting a top-quality part that fits perfectly and I could just go by and pick them up instead of waiting for them to be shipped.

That is a really good price for them Dave... Do you have any pictures of them, day and night, running light and brake light? I want to see every shot before I pull the trigger.

Looking forward to those pics. Those tails look badass. Gotta see 'em on the truck, though, to be sure.

I didn't see any closeup pics, though.

What I'm looking for is a shot of the tails in the daytime and some shots at night, showing them with brake on and brake off, and with the truck in reverse.

I meant in the daytime... Night they can be as bright as they want! I would have to give them just one spritz of shade to really make them black. I love the look though! Definitely on my short list...

It looks like you reuse the OEM bulb for the backup lights, right? I wonder if there is an LED bulb replacement for the OEM bulb that would let you make it all LED. That would be sweet!
