Huh, I didn't see the NMO mount anywhere in the listing. Probably just reading too quickly, will go back and find it.

Well, we hadn't talked about it at all, but it seems to me that we should since we missed it last time. Maybe a spring trip?

Goodness. Why is everything always taken to extremes? You know damn well that I don't mind challenges on trails, and even when I think you're F*@#ing crazy, I always seem to say something innocuous like "seriously?" and then just follow you through whatever crazy thing it is that could kill us.

It's not about determination; it's about prioritization and knowing what you're after. And it doesn't have to be the same for everyone, or even a single someone over a period of time.

In fact, it's just like life - understanding what really makes you happy and being confident enough in yourself to do those things (as opposed to whatever the "likes" say you should do is what will lead to the greatest successes.

I totally agree that Colorado was doable in a stock Taco. Did I ever say it wasn't? Look, I did the De-Tour on a basically stock Taco and had a great (adrenaline pumping) time. I did it again in my non-stock Taco and it was less adrenaline pumping (because I had more experience). Monte is likely right that it's just a matter of time for me - if history is any indicator of the future (it always is in my experience).

I'm seriously not sure why you're so set on me having the same priorities as you. :notsure:

And as far as the build goes - I also agree with you that people get caught up and overbuild. But I'd argue that most of us like the build too. Some people like the build more than they like camping, and so we often hear, "I just need to do XXX before my truck will be ready to hit the trails for the first time." To me, that's OK (for them), even if it's not the way I would recommend doing it.

So yeah, I'd say that most (maybe not all) of our trucks are overbuilt for how we use them. So what? That overbuild is part of the fun, and you have to admit that the overbuild makes it so that you don't have to worry as much in a lot of situations. Again, like life, it's a balance.

I'd seriously considered taking off my front bumper (and winch) to save a bunch of weight last year, but then I hit that deer with it and had no damage at all to the truck. And I realized that with a lot of trips being 1000 miles away for me (each way) and a lot of those 1000 miles being driven at dusk/dark, that's why I have a front bumper. Not for trails.

Considered the same with the rear - 'cause as you know, I really like the look of the tailgate. Except then I have nowhere to carry the spare with my current rear shock setup.

And yeah, the OSK plan is a good one. We should try it on next years trips.

I'm also considering finding different cases instead of the military boxes. As much as I love some aspects of them, they are heavy.

Think its just the N mount. It definitely comes in an NMO mount though. I've used one.

I certainly wouldn't complain about that. Spring might be interesting for that stuff due to rain(flooding) but be more exciting :D

oh take a chill pill :luvya: you make it too easy to poke the bear haha

And yes you certainly do it all. Very much the same as Mike(who could and has taken this same shit storm of teasing you are now haha!) where you follow because...well...if he can do it...fuck it hahaha Like that river crossing. Which..of course none of us should have done..but whatever.

Oh yeah. You'll be on 35s and long travel before long  :luvya: hahaha

okay nah. But might be up for Cliff Hanger or Holy Cross soon enough.

oh yeah 100% it's for animals and recovery points. Winch is secondary and so is offroading protection. Followed by light mounting options haha haven't hit a deer with mine...yet. Sure I will.

Bit worried what i'll do what I hit one with the DD taco....

I never thought the boxes were that heavy empty. Guess I should check. Judging on how mine have taken abuse and the battle scars they have, im not convinced other boxes would have help up as well. But Id guess just about anything would do if packed correctly(no movement).

C'mon now. In every post, I said something about how I know difficulty changes over time, and that even my threshold has/is changing over time...but that the thing I enjoy most right now is getting out there and seeing cool stuff. And then you go and say it's about determination, and Brett says I should take everything off the truck.

What I'm saying is that extremism isn't helpful. We get enough of that from the various medias these days. We shouldn't fall into it ourselves.

I sure hope I'm not on 35's and long travel. Though I did find myself thinking that a smoother ride would be nice in some places on this Death Valley trip. :anonymous:

And I'm sure you're right about Cliff Hanger and Holy Cross. But that doesn't mean it has to be my priority. :p (even if it's Brett's and Zane's)

Thanks! The problem with the plastic injected molded cases is that they all waste so much space with their various bends and whatnot. That's actually one of the things I really like about the military cases - the inside and outside dimensions are essentially identical.

I hope you both know you're drama queens, if anything your (plural) trip reports prove that. :luvya: :p The only reason I expressed anything related to trail toughness in here when Brett mentioned it is because I'd like to do more challenging things when we all wheel, not because I think you have to take on the toughest shit around to be cool. So both of you calm your damn tits.

    Alright resume thread

I know you were, but I knew you did before haha.

I'm curious why he hopes he doesn't end up on 35s and LT tho.... :p TBH for the longest time I wasn't interested in that either, after the last two builds I got bored with the MT setup deal, it was all too "been thered done that" for this truck. I got complacent with my last build. So whoever was saying we enjoy the build, yeah, I do at least. And quite frankly I like it when things break a bit too, shows me what I can do better and keeps it interesting. I get bored easily, that's why I spent college doing truck shit not school work.

this is a speech just...dedicated to me and my feelings. hahaha

Plus the ride with LT and 35s...pretty freaking epic. You'll love it. well...other than having to fix all the other broken shit. But thats not really a downside most the time, part of the fun as you said. Unless you don't have a place to do it like me :pout:

I never said you had to have the same priorities as me, I'm just stirring the pot and giving you a hard time for having a capable truck and not using it to it's potential.:boink: :p

And running hard trails is not always my priority, but they are fun to do from time to time.

RE: plastic bins. I've been looking at the the Front Runner ones. They look pretty nice and are fairly reasonably priced. Need to sort out my organization a little better too.

Looking at those wolf packs, I like them for how compact they would be. But it would take 6 of those to roughly equal how much room I have with my 3 Plano boxes. $240 is a lot more than $72 for the same amount of storage.

Yeah, they look pretty nice. Not too much more expensive than my awesome action packers. :cookiemonster:

I like the form factor, but I wouldn't need 6 of them.

A)we've all been talking about reducing the shit we carry
B)easier to organize things in separate bins than one huge one that becomes unmanageable

True, my bins are only 11.8” deep and I feel like I lose stuff in them. They’re great for storing spare parts though. The wife saw a Tembo Tusk for the first time today and wants one. It would save some space and weight carrying one of those instead of a camp stove. But $$$...

I’m typically bad about bringing about twice as much food as I need...

For the ads mounts, were you running the new style MCM mounts?

Just so you know, your statement seemed different to me, since it was about you. But anyway, it's all good.

I haven't wanted 35's and LT because I know that will lead to be breaking even more on the truck, faster. Oh, and also because it gives me something to :boink: Monte about, since we all know how much he likes to tell us about the awesomeness of Frank.

Yeah, I am just running the ADS mounts, not the MCM ones. Actually, it's interesting to me that the ADS mounts seem to work just fine, makes me wonder a little bit about why the MCM ones were developed (I'm sure there is a good reason, Matt's a smart guy).

The top-of-frame mounting location seems pretty great. The resis are up and out of the way, vs. being in the wheel well. I guess they are a bit harder to get out when I eventually need to do that - but that should be a reasonably rare occurrence (once a year?) so I'm fine with it.

Gimme the subtext version then too cause I missed it, but I'd like to know what ended up as a foot in mouth moment. I don't usually have multiple meanings to my sentences, I'm not a very creative writer like that.

Because it's boring. I have a stock truck now, I wouldn't be keeping it at all if I had to keep it stock.
